Need Your Support

I am sorry to do this to you girls but I know that you all will be there for me. I just found out today that my FI is going to lose his job. He has been looking but alot of people know that there is really nothing out there. I just needed your love and support right now because I am on the verge on cancelling the wedding but I do not want to do that. Thanks for listening.

Re: Need Your Support

Why would you cancel?? You have a date of 2004, you have more than enough time to still plan, maybe scale back, but with over 2 years there is no reason to cancel. Pray about your situation, think positively. I know it might be hard at this time, especially with the way the economy is. But it can be done. Hope all works out for you.

Take care sweetie

Re: Need Your Support

I went through this same thing.

Don't cancel. FH lost his job 4 days after he proposed to me. Just hang in there together and cut back on other things in the beginning stages of planning. (i.e. no big dinners or expensive nights out for now)

He'll find another job, even if it's temporary.

Best thing you can do for him right now is support him. Cancelling the wedding will make him feel even worse.

Chin up, it does get better....trust me! What kind of work is he looking for?

Re: Need Your Support

Don't worry, Lisa, we are here for you. Things will work itself out, you have to believe in that.
As for your wedding, it's in 2004, right?
Be hopeful, your FH still has plenty of time to get another job in time to save for it.
This doesn't necessarily mean you have to cancel your wedding. Understandably you may want to hold off planning as much until he's stable.

In the meantime, he can surf the web all day and night and post his resume everywhere. I got my current job through Monster.com, just as I was giving up.

Anytime you need to vent, or a shoulder, we're here for you. Feel free.
Good luck with everything.
Keep your head up.

Re: Need Your Support

Don't cancel sweetie. I lost my job 2 months after getting engaged (lay-offs) but thankfully I found a better one. He has plenty of time and he can still collect unemployment in the mean time. It's not the best situation but time is on your side. Just take deep breaths and take it one day at a time

Re: Need Your Support

I agree with Shamma, you definetly have enough time to plan. I don't think you should cancel the wedding yet just hold off for a while on the planning.

Don't worry, he will find a job and everything will be ok.

Re: Need Your Support

I know that I have time until my wedding but it is hard to save and pay bills if he does not have a job. He is a stock clerk for Chase. He has been looking for the last 6 months because they told him that his department was going to close at the end of the year but now it is going to be at the end of this month. He is getting a servenace (sp?) pay though.

Re: Need Your Support

I am so sorry to hear about your FH's job. Believe me, I can relate. Unemployment does add a lot of stress. But let me relate my experience and maybe add a ray of hope. During our planning process both my FH and I were out of work for a period of time. Actually, when we booked our hall we both did not have jobs! It was tough, but we made it through. You have time before your wedding, my advice would be to hold off on cancelling and see where you are in a few months.

I will keep you in my prayers that your FH finds not only a new job - but a great new job.

Re: Need Your Support

I know the feeling, the economy is very bad right now. I am in a part time job ( and have a masters!) and not even in my field of work because I would be getting paid a lot less than I should be if I took a job in my field becuase the economy is so bad .Things will get better. Maybe he can get 2 part time jobs until things look uup? Try not to cancel the wedding , 2004 is some time away, I am sure things will get better. We are all here for you! If you need to vent or need someone to listen to you feel free to forum e mail me.Good luck!

Re: Need Your Support

In July 2001, less than 2 weeks after we signed the contract at the Hamlet I was laid-off very unexpectly. It was awful. I told everyone I knew that I was looking and I got a new job within 7 weeks. Make sure you give him a ton of support and love. It is such a hard thing to lose your job. Let him take a week or so to himself. I needed to do that. Then he can start to look. I would not cancel a 2004 wedding with so much time to go. It might look like you do not believe in him or think he will ever get a new job.
I will say that losing my job was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I learned who my real friends were and when my FH looked at me while I was crying and said, 'I will work 3 jobs if I have to in order for you to have the wedding of your dreams' my heart skipped a beat and I knew that marrying him was the best thing I could ever do.

Re: Need Your Support

Thank you all for all your love and support. Reading each post is making me cry. He has been calling me up all day trying to make me feel better when I should be calling him. I love him so much for that. I keep telling him and myself that everything will work out. Thanks again.

Re: Need Your Support

Have him try posting his resume on every job site imaginable, if he hasn't done so already. If that hasn't worked. Tell him to pull out the yellow pages and look up companies in his field and have him start calling and asking them for their human resources department. Once he gets a hold of them get their fax and email address - so, he can shoot them his resume.
Good Luck sweetie - things will turn around! Just keep the faith!

Re: Need Your Support

Nylisa.. DONT CANCELL

I'm sorry for what you are going through. It is a hard thing when a somebody loses there job, let alone while you are planning a wedding but he WILL find something, and it is definitly in your favor that you have lots of time ahead of you.
I'm sure most vendors and places would take a very small deposit, instead of there 20% or so, if you explained your situation.
I would also scale down alot so that when he is back on his feet again he isint over his head in debt from wedding things.
You can still have a beautiful wedding.
Keep praying..
Stay postive..
Let your wedding and upcoming marriage be what gets you through all these bad times.
Good luck to your FH

Re: Need Your Support

I'm sorry for the difficult time that you're having. Please try to stay positive. I really believe everything happens for a reason even though you may not know what that reason is. Something better is waiting for him. One day you will look back and wonder why you were so stressed. Try not to say anything about postponing right now. It will only make him feel worse, like he let you down. Just continue your research even if you don't leave any deposits so at least you'll be ready for when things get better. Good luck.
