A couple is coming to my wedding. My wedding day will be their 28th wedding anniversary & they are spending it with us (I am honored).
I wanted to have their wedding song played so they can dance to it (so can everyone else).
However, there is another woman (John's aunt) who it would have been her wedding anniversary also (but her husband passed).
Do you think she's be hurt if I had a dance for the one couple? If so what can I do special for the couple who's 28th wedding anniversary it is?
Thanks

Re: Need your thoughts on something
I would say something to John's Aunt beforehand so she isn't taken of guard and make sure she has someone to dance with

Jen, are you doing the bouquet/garter toss? If not, would you consider just giving them the bouquet and garter, instead of making it a more public thing?
I think what you are doing is a really sweet idea, but I see where you are coming from about not wanting to make her feel bad.

Have John ask her to dance with him. Have him say 'I know Uncle XXX isn't here, so I'd like to share this dance with you on your anniversary'.

Annies idea is the best one I think. Remember if it is going to make someone feel lonely and someone else happy, it may be best to skip altogether, but Annies idea is a nice transition, but tell her beforethe wedding I think, so she is not put on the spot or thrown off guard.

I actually think it would be nicer if she DIDN'T know beforehand. Since the dance isn't for HER anniversary, then nobody will know, and she won't feel like all the attention is on her. Having the groom, who is also her nephew, surprise her with asking her to dance would be very flattering and touching to her I'm sure. JMO

I like Annie's idea. That would be sooo sweet and would probably mean the world to your aunt.

I think Annie hit the nail on the head. You don't want to catch this poor woman off guard and make her sad. My grandparents anniversary would have been the day before my wedding and I am getting nervous about how she will act during the anniversary dance. It has been 4 years but to her it is still new. I would check with her first and then have her dance with John!

Re: Need your thoughts on something
I'm having the same proplem actually.
I have decided to give by bouquet to my FH grandparents...they have been married for 70 YEARS!!! Yes...I said 70.
My grandfather passed six years ago...do you think my grandmother will be upset that I am giving it to them or do think think six years is enough time?

I like Annies Idea, too. Kelly, I think I would have to know your grandmother to say, but I don;t think she would be upset. 70 years is a long time and should be acknowledged!
