Has anyone succesfully negotiated a lower price on their hall or do halls tend to prefer to 'throw things in'?

Re: Negotiating?
*raises Hand* I did I did. My hall wound up lowering the price $5 per head. It doesnt seem like a lot but when you figure in 100 guest thats a savings of $500 bucks right off the top!
Then at the same time we got a couple of freebies as well!

Re: Negotiating?
We were able to do both. They lowered their price as well as threw in things like hospiality, chair covers and menus. Most if not all of our vendors came down in price and/or threw things in.My father likes to at least try to negotiate.

I don't think you can negotiate the price per plate...ie get them to come lower in the price...I think most halls 'throw' extras in...def worth a shot...but I think they favor the 'extras' over the reduced rate

Re: Negotiating?
We got them down on the price significantly. I think some vendors prefer throwing extras in, like photographers, and some will just reduce the overall price. For us, the price per person at the hall was more important to reduce than extras. Good luck!

we got them to lower the price significantly on the hall also.. and then they threw more stuff in on top of that. most of our vendors are throwing some things in.. some even throwing things in that should cost us about $700 more!
let me just say, it never ever ever hurts to ask

yes that is so true! you'd be surprised what vendors are willing to do for you if they know it means getting your business..Our hall didnt go down significantly in price, but they went down a bit and threw in some extras for us as well.

Re: Negotiating?
photog will throw in extra hours, pictures, negatives, thank yous things like that
Flowers maybe extra flowers, or an expensive flower at a discounted price, pew bows etc
You just have to ask really, I found the more questions I asked, the more they were willing to throw in.
Like lookat the contract and say oh does this include... and i guess they dont want to tell you no ten times and ive in a little.

Re: Negotiating?
We negotiated per person (not by much) and they threw in an ice sculpture (which I don't even want) and a mini-Viennese hour.
You can pretty much negotiate everything in the wedding business. I have negotiated price of dress, band, etc.

Re: Negotiating?
I got Villa Lombardi's to lower the per-person rate by 15 bucks! They also threw in extra seaford for the CH. I negotiated big time!

Re: Negotiating?
Don't be afraid to negotiate. Every hall I looked at lowered the price AND threw in extras. But you know Ray.. he is a charmer!

Re: Negotiating?
I did. Originally the price was $125, not including tax and service. We cut some items from the menu and negotiated to $100 per person, including tax and service. It's definitely worth a try!

Re: Negotiating?
I wouldn't even know how to ask for a price cut. How do you do it? What do you say?
