Anyone have any tips for negotiating the price and/or getting freebies thrown in?

Re: negotiating the rh
everything is negotiable.... EVERYTHING. be flexible with your guarantee number. one wise piece of advice, don't jump on a higher guarantee number just to get a lower price per person, unless you're sure you can meet that guarantee number. bc otherwise it could potentially cost you more!

Re: negotiating the rh
My mother once told me a trick someone told her.....they went to a bunch of halls, and saved the one the liked best for last. When they went to the last one, they brought all the folders in a bag, and when the hall didn't budge on certain things, they said....well, so and so hall gave us x for the cocktail hour....what can you do for us?
In this economy, all halls are hurting (okay, maybe not Oheka), but lots are throwing stuff in to book.
You can also see if the hall has a date they are trying to get rid of for one reason or another. They may give that day away for a song.

Yes, I went there with a list of questions and said can this be included? And then they included it lol.
Got free lighting and 2 extra stations.

i found that when we asked for extras or cost reduction 'jokingly' most times they were accomodating! i think you need to read your banquet manager and see what approach would be best...while it may be a little awkward asking for deductions, you have to at least try! (we all know weddings are expensive enough!)

Re: negotiating the rh
I negotiated my Saturday night pricing. I got a Saturday night (10/2) for the same price they wanted for a Sunday afternoon (10/10). They came down a lot on the price and the minimum.
And when you're initially booking don't be afriad to tell them what other halls are giving you and what you're paying. EVERYTHING is negotiable. They are making HUGE profits so I guarantee most places are willing to come down a few dollars or throw in extras when they have to, to make a bride happy.

Re: negotiating the rh
we didnt rly negotiate our per head price, but we did ask for substitutes (say, filet mignon v. chicken, or an extra hot station v. cold) and they were very accomodating. just ASK - worse case scenario they say they cant do it, but if they rly cant they will prob try and offer something else to soften the blow =)

Re: negotiating the rh
i really didnt have to negotiate the rate per person - just had to negotiate the minimums required because everyone's minimums are so freakin high LOL especially for a sat night.....

Re: negotiating the rh
Great question, i really hate bringing up 'frebbies' etc...i'm also a really bad haggler! I'm still looking at a few more places, but i plan to bring my parents with me for the final look at the SC and they are much better at that stuff. I'll prob sit down with my mom before we leave and discuss aplan of action. We are gonna be spendig a boat load of money on our wedding no matter what, but it would be great to have some little things thrown in here and htere!

we didnt really have to..they were REALLY great. We did want some extras, and asked for it...they offered us a packaged price for two for a cheaper price :)
