Negotiating with vendors

I am the worst at negotiating and always take the first price that i am offered. Then i hear that someone else was offered the same package (day, time and everything) as me but for a better price .

The questions that I have is how do you negotiate with vendors (including catering hall) for a lower price?

Help Please!!!! because i want to go and put a down payment on the swan club (hopefully) but i want to see if i can get a better price.

What my FI did for our photographer is he told the guy ok well you are offering me this package which includes such and such items for x amount of dollars. I went to company B who is offering me this in my package and at a lower price. What can you offer me that will either match or beat this other companies package and make me want to choose you.

the guy then threw in some great stuff and FI was like really, i am still not convinced i feel you are charging me a lot of money for a package i think i can get elsewhere for less.

the guy new my FI was talking business and he wanted no more then a certain amount of money to be spent and if this company couldnt accomadate us we would go elsewhere.

very very lucky for us this photographer came very very highly recommended from many girls on here and I wanted to book this vendor from day one but FI wanted to see if we could get him any lower. we did and we got a lot of great stuff included in our package..

you just have to make it seem like you would go elsewhere but you are interested in them but for them to convince you they have to lower there price or offer you more in your package.
