Have any of you been successful at negotiating a lower price per head with your reception hall? I don't want to rule out some places, even though the price they quoted is over my budget. How did you approach this? Any suggestions or tips?
Thanks!

Re: Negotiations with Reception Halls...
I got them down $5 a person on the 'head' price and $200 off the ceremony room 'rental' fee.
I guess I was able to negotiate because I booked my wedding within 7 months and was totally open with date...

Same as Sassy as far as booking in 7 months and being open with the date. But, one thing I learned is if you have a set budget that you can afford. Let's say it's 100pp++, to give it a round number. Call a few places that you're interested in that have higher published rates. Say 'this is my budget, can you work within it'. I found that when I started doing this, prices came down just about everywhere to try to fit it. With the economy the way it is, a lot of places are willing to deal, but they want to know what your budget is-they don't want to play price games.

Definitely negotiate! You will have an upperhand if it's within the next six months (places would rather work with you than let the day go empty). I'm getting married this September and every place I called this month was flexible. Most places start with a standard menu, you can also try to negotiate for more add-ons for the standard price. It was hard for me to negotiate (I was sweating through it), but in the end, think of it as saving you some $$ that can go twoards the dress or honeymoon! Good Luck.
