We are going on our third cruise again this summer and now ever since the tsunami thing I am nervous!!! especially since I heard it can happen here because of some volcanos errupting in the canary islands.
God forbid something happens in the ocean while we are on the cruise.

it will not happen on the east coast. From what I heard. we will only be effected by the weather. a Tsumani can only happen near fault lines. Again that is what I understood

Re: Nervous about my cruise...
I am a very nervous person. Ever since 911 I refuse to fly! I will not step foot on a plane and I used to love to fly.
That's why I go on cruises. Thank God cruises leave out of New York. If I tell DH about this, he will think i'm being silly and he'll say 'i'll send you a postcard'...LOL

nothing to be nervous about. you have every right to be and Im sure you are not the only person who feels like that. My hubby refuses to fly since 9/11 too. Normal human reaction

I read that off the coast of Spain are these islands called the canary islands. and there are volcanos there that are in danger of collasping and if they do it would hit the west coast of africa in a matter of 2 hrs. and would send waves all across the ocean and cuz a major landslide tsunami on the east coast from Boston to Miami!!!!!
that though freaks me out

oh yes of course it's a normal reaction. My mom refuses to believe that I am afraid of flying. I have flown my whole life and was never scared. She thinks i'm being foolish...LOL

you shouldnt be nervous... my fw was the same way but once realizeing how limited you are with flying...we are going away for the second time (flying) since 9/11. first time we didnt even think about it...it was just another trip.
btw: you have by far greater of a chance of being hurt in your car (if you drive) then being on a plane.
you have nothing fear...

Re: Nervous about my cruise...
FYI - If you were out in the middle of the ocean and tsunami went by you wouldn't even notice. The water level would rise, but the boat would simply float on higher. The big waves don't come until the tsunami hits shallow water. Even if you were docked, you'd be fine -- cruise ships have to dock in deep water -- worst case the boat would bang against the dock, which would cause bumps and bruises but the boat wouldn't get tipped/sink. You are very safe on a cruise ship!!!
Note: I was on a cruise ship that hit an iceberg -- we didn't even know it had happened -- and it was severe damage that took nearly a week to repair!

Re: Nervous about my cruise...
I get a letter from vacations to go.com every few weeks on cruise updates and they said that none of the ships were damaged from the tsunami.
I also read that canary island info from yahoo news and they said that a tsunami hitting the east coast is like a one in a million chance. Ah! So there is a chance! Just kidding.
Hey if you don't want to go...I'll take your place!!

Thats a comforting thing to know. I did hear somewhere that you were on a ship out in the ocean that you would be probably safer than on land.
Sorry I'm feeling better so you can't go in my place...LOL LOL LOL
