There are 15 catering halls I am interested in looking at in person. My first two appointments are next week and all of a sudden, I just got tremendous anxiety about it. I am really nervous. I'm thinking what should I wear? How will it go? What will happen? Will I ask the right things? I've never done this before and I'm panicking. Were you nervous when you went to look at halls in person? Does anyone have any advice for me?

My advice is to just relax. You can wear whatever you wear from day to day. I didn't get dressed up or anything...jeans and flip flops. They will walk you around the facility, explaining how the day will run. Then you usually sit down to disicuss menu/pricing. It's really not too big a deal. You might want to write down ?'s you want to ask so that you don't forget any....and bring a camera if you want to take pics! It will be fine....just relax. Good luck!

hey hun, I was a little nervous too before I went, but looking back, I don't really know why. It really was not something to be nervous over. It was fun looking around and getting to see all the places. Just wear whatever you normally wear, you don't have to get dressed up. There is a list of a million questions to ask, I thought I had it saved, but I can't find it - sorry! The BM will go over most of the impt stuff anyway. Some things you might want to ask about are linen colors, chair covers, how early you can come day of...if you can pick the start time of your party...how much vendors/kids cost to feed...ratio of guests to servers...overtime charges and if there are any renovations planned. Good luck and have fun!

Don't worry, I'm sure it will go smoothly! I was nervous too but FH and I brought my mom with us to make sure we'd have someone to help us ask questions incase we forgot anything. Maybe you guys can bring a parent with you? It might help you feel at ease. You can also try to make a list of things you want to bring up when you're there. After you've visited your first RH, you'll feel more comfortable visiting the others. Just make sure you don't settle for a place you aren't in love with!

Don't be nervous and especially not about what you should wear. I think when I first went to the RH, I was wearing cropped sweats and flip flops!
It helps to go with either your mom or FIL's because it's nice for them to see the places as well and they may have more insight as to what to ask. But don't let their personal opinions get in the way (like if they don't really like the feel of the place). Pick somewhere that you and FI know is where you want to have your reception.

Hey, don't be nervous. You'll do just fine I was a little nervous the first time as well but that passes. After looking at a few, you'll know exactly what to ask and what you're looking for in a venue. Ask as many questions as you want...that's what they're there for. If you forget to ask something, you can always contact them afterwards. So breathe and have a great time!

There's no reason to be nervous at all. You're only going to look, you're not signing anything.
Plus the more reception halls you visit the more questions you're going to come up with. and you can always call or email the previous reception halls and ask the new questions. Everyone is going to try and sell you on their venue - they will mention different things that will make you think of questions - like did that other reception hall include this? the other place didn't talk about those fees or this one is throwing this in; will the other one? - etc.
and wear whatever. I just wore jeans, sneakers and a nice shirt.

I was really nervous the first time too! It was really fun actually, and it was more fun each time. We wore casual clothes to visit the halls, nothing fancy. Good luck!

Thanks girls!! I'm starting to feel less nervous and more excited already. Now figuring out how I'm going to get the time to see 13 more places is the question LOL.

Awww, don't be nervous. Just go in there and bring a list of questions if that makes you feel better. After the 1st one, you'll get an idea how all of them go. It pretty much goes like this: you come in, look at the rooms, etc, then you sit down with them to go over the menu and pricing. You can ask them any questions you would like.

I was nervous too, still am while booking vendors, for some reason I get into a 'job interview' mode. Just write down some questions you have and ask them. If you want, I'm sure everyone on here would be willing to give you suggestions on some qurstions to ask. I myself looked at 17 halls and contacted countless others and each one was different, some gave you too much information, others didn't give you enough, some because very personal (remembering name, asking nationality, etc) while others didn't seem to care if we booked or not. some are playful while others are stiff. Just let it flow. Wear what you want, on one appt I wore sweats and had no make up on and my hair in a sloppy bun ( I was REALLY sick, but had the appt). Remember, its YOUR wedding and YOUR the one paying.

Re: Nervous Newbie
A couple of times I went in sweats....just remember they want your business. My only advice is to know your budget bc it is very easy to get swept into I want this and that and then realize you just addes $20 to your pp head price.

I was nervous, too, and looking back it's so silly. There's no right or wrong questions to ask- you ask about what is important to you! And don't worry about what to wear, they definitely do not judge a (check)book by it's cover! It's actually a lot of fun because all they want to do is please YOU! It's like being famous. Enjoy it!
