never a dull moment at work
so 2 days ago i had 4 women come into the store with giant shopping bags and start grabbing stuff...so we all went over and watched them like hawks...they went to the register to do all their returns from what they brought in. $2,000 in cash refunds and 2 hrs later ...we're left with a MOOOOOOOOOOOUNTAIN of clothes to hang, fold and put back and its already a half hour past closing time. we knew they were running scam on us but because the reciepts they had matched up and they weren't on our 'refuse return' list...we had to do it. now the 'ring leader' didn't realize that there was 1 bag of merchandise that i didn't give her. I knew it was behind the cashwrap but figured if she didn't realize it maybe she'd forget it and we consider it recovered OR at least it would buy us time until i could get in contact with corporate for further instruction as to what we could do about it. The next morning...she calls about her bag so i debate...should i just say we don't have it or make her come and get it...i decide having her come and get it buys me more time to figure out what to do. so i tell her we have it...she says she's coming to pick it up. she didn't come yesterday...but today i see a suspicious lady with a giant filled shopping bag grabbing items...so i walk across to the other side of the store...and i spot 2 more suspicious ladies with large bags...sure enough the 'ring leader' is there and she sees me and says 'i'm here for my bag'. at this point i see she has more bags of returns...so i call everyone out to the floor and we watch them like hawks. I see 1 lady go to exchange merchandise she has no reciept for...and the other 2 go to grab more stuff...i see them looking at an old reciept saying 'what size? 4? ok go get it' and 1 girl grabs 2 blue dresses in a size 4. i then see her take them off the hanger and place the empty hangers among other racks of clothing so i know she's about to pull something...she takes the dresses to the cash wrap...places them under the shopping bag of returns and proceeds to distract the cashier by asking her a question...as she's doing this i am standing behind her and she takes the dresses out from under the bag and shoves them in the bag. The cashier finishes the exchange and the lady pulls the dresses out of the bag and says 'i want to return these' so i have my associate inconspicuously call the cops. the cops get there in less than 1 minute and they stand there as i tell the lady i witnessed her conceal the 2 dresses and attempt to return them. I tell them i have made a decision to not accept any of their returns and that they are no longer allowed in any of our stores. the cops tell them they will be arrested for tresspassing if they ever go into one of our stores.
HOWEVER...the officer says if the items she concealed match her reciept we must allow her to take it...so we do. but these ladies were so frazzled they forgot their original reciepts...I'm writing to the LP manager about the situation when i look at the reciept to log the info from it...and i feel that the reciept feels funny in certain spots...would you believe these thieves used a chemical to remove the ink on the reciept where it says 'RETURN / EXCHANGE' and 'AMT DUE TO CUST' and all the negative signs on the dollar amounts so it looks like a purchase reciept instead of a return reciept?!?!?! i called the original store to find out if it was a return or purchase transaction and sure enough she confirms it was a return not a purchase..![]()
