never going to happen

never going to happen

Every time I think I can start saving for a wedding, something happens. My MIL could care less, so she isn't contributing $ and my parents have 4 kids so they can't give much. All I have ever wanted is a wedding and I feel like it will never be a reality. I think being on here is just to add salt to my wounds.

Don't feel like that..what about using your tax return, getting a smaller venue (or on a off peak time)...I think in the end it will all work out

There are plenty of ways to make it work.

Have you thought about a winter wedding. Prices at venues are much much cheaper.

What about something more casual and not necessarily at a catering hall.

or my favorite budget saver a destination wedding!!!!!!!!

My MOH got married this past summer on a carnival cruise. It was totally budget friendly for her because she only paid for herself and husband and a small reception on the ship.

I know it can be hard with the expensive costs of weddings, but you can find creative ways to save money. I have a friend who is using an ipod with a thoughtfully designed playlist to save on a band/dj .. as ladies above said find a location that is cheap and then use off peak seasons/ days (i.e. winter and a friday or sunday). Some people do cupcakes or small cakes for each table as opposed to a large wedding cake... Get creative and you can still have the wedding of your dreams

The ladies on here have given some wonderful suggestions. Other ways to be budget friendly is to have DIY projects. Have your wedding party help you some of the projects to cut corners. You can still have the wedding of your dreams on a budget :)

Hang in there, everything will work itself out. FH & I are in a similar boat. I'm trying to pick up extra hours and tax refunds are going into the wedding fund. If you haven't already you could start a wedding piggy bank. Basically a jar or something that you just put loose change into and in time the $ adds up. FH & I are in a contest with who can save up more change - we each have our own piggy banks (mine's cuter and has a guard to keep it safe from thieves).

So good luck, hang in there, and remember to breathe

Why dont you try looking into halls that offer a package deal? There are some places that include everything like limo's, photo, flowers etc...all for a flat rate.

Do not worry. I feel like that at times too, and on top of it FH got laid off. But you are smart and will figure out a way to make it work!!!

Sometimes I get the same feeling but in my heart I know we'll make it happen (as corny as that sounds). We're just trying to make sure to take money out of each paycheck and put it into a savings account. It builds up fast!! Also, the piggy bank is a great idea!

Re: never going to happen

Thank you ladies. I appreciate the support. and of course the most important thing is that I am married to the one I love. We did have a very small civil ceremony and it was nicer than I was expecting. That was three years ago. I was expecting to have the 'big' wedding by now. Part of me feels like since I have waited this long, I might as well keep waiting. I was only 25 when I got married so I was the first of my friends. A lot of my friends are getting married now so, while I am happy for them, now I see all that I was missing. Using my tax refund is a really good idea, and I am planning on doing a lot of DIY.
The major problem is that I need to have kosher food and that is really expensive and there is not a lot I can do to make that cheaper. I got my masters last May and haven't found a job. Hopefully when I do find one, I can really start saving. Mostly, I'm just venting. I really appreciate the forum to vent, because most of my friends/family just don't get it like brides-to-be do.

Re: never going to happen

they have made weddings now sooo over done and large! Makes people feel like they have to have this over the top one of a kind wedding! Yes it would be nice to be a platinum bride but reality is a lot of us just cant do it!
You have to look at one little thing at a time.. not the whole picture! Looking at everything and cost for the whole wedding in one big picture is very over whleming. take care of little things here and there when you can! BREATHE.. do things at your own rate and personality!
you WILL have a wedding and YOUR wedding will be a memory you always remember as well as everyone around you that you share it with! Hang in there! Im sorry your feeling this way!
