we are not allowed to use prophanity on this site- why?
I am not looking for big brother here- I'm just tired of the bs really.
it's like these godzilla people walk all over others- and then call FOS...I could say a lot of mean and nasty things too, but I don't. I am 'free' to do it in terms of the law- but there are other 'rules' we should follow- like treating people with kindness and respect, even if you don't agree with their ideas.
so we can split the difference...maybe we could have a manners or 'how to play nice' with others tutorial.
It's tough to change people Jess - just like there are people on here that are GENUINE in their kindness and never utter a mean syllable, there are those (like myself) who are just RAW and BLUNT with their words, where others take this as 'genuine honesty' others take it as 'being mean.'
It's best to just ignore those who cannot conjure up an opinion without being nasty.
It's an unfortunate thing we face everyday. Such as the folks on the train who do not get up for a pregnant woman, disabled, elderly, or children...it's not a LAW, but it's COURTEOUS to do so.
I disagree with you in that respect Christine. I think you are honest and blunt, but I don't think you speak with disrespect. you don't give your opinions laced with words like TACKY, UGLY or anything like that.
I am honest and I don't sugar coat BUT I try to keep in my that what I am saying my hurt someone or bust their bubble in the very least- the catch phrase should be TACT, not tacky.
it's the adjectives used...

I don't think the word should necessarily be banned, people should be more sensitive when using words... I guess I am living in a fantasy world....
Ron, I hope everything is well with your mother...

I was always told:
Think Quickly, Speak Slowly rather than: Speak Quickly, Think Slowly
There are many (including ourselves) that know the difference and THINK things through before they write/say anything. It's taking a conscience effort to make sure that what we say is not hurting the other person.
We cannot expect those that do not THINK things through to the affect of 'hurting' someone else's feelings to change.

Hi Christine!
I understand your intention, I am not a fan of the idea.
Where does it stop, who draws the line? Everytime someone gets offended do they get to request the offending word be banned?
It's like Howard and the FCC baby!
Sorry, I'm a Republican but a DIE hard Howard fan - had to throw that in there!
I agree- but I am a DIE HARD DEMOCRAT- and Howard fan- but it's nice for the 2 parties to agree sometimes

I have never heard the word tacky used so much as I do on this site, it's unreal how many times I see it here each and every day!! I'm not saying people shouldn't use it, I just don't think people should throw it around so freely. It's not the word itself but how it's used in a derrogatory sense. Take other people's feelings into consideration, that's all I'm asking for.
Jess, great idea with the holiday emote-icons!! Chanukah armidillo!!
Ron, hope everything goes well with your mom!! She's in our thoughts and prayers!!

tacky could also mean sticky
'Using too much hairspray on your wedding day could leave a tacky residue on your hairpiece. '
