I have an upper respiratory infection..I went to the doc on Friday, he gave me some antibiotic..and told me to take mucinex or robitussin for the cough....ive been taking mucinex dm...and now i cant stop clearing my throat...it is driving me up the wall.....anyone have any suggestions on how to finally nip this cold??? (especially the crappy phlegm part)

Hot Tea should help break up the phlem - but keep in mind a cold is a virus and you can not get rid of a virus with antibiotics. So, OTC meds can help but honestly as much as it s u c k s - yea. . you just have to wait it out.
Also . . . be careful what you are eating and drinking b/c a lot of foods can create phlem. Milk for example is a big one - so when you have your tea drink it with lemon and honey (no milk and sugar). Also anything WITH milk products like ice cream will make the phlem worse. Sometimes I find things like fruit can worsen the phlem, so if you are trying to get vitamin C - for the moment maybe you want to just try to take a supplement.

i had the same cold... it started with a sore throat on 3/21 and i jus got over it now... WITH antibiotics... craziness... i'm just finishing up 10 days worth of pills today!
