new bride

Hello, everyone I am new to this and have lots of questions. Me and my FH have together for some time and have decided to get married in the latter half of 2012. I would like to know if anyone is getting married at the Sands in Franklin Square. Recently went to wedding there for a friend and it wasamazing, so I am thinking about that location. I also viewed pictures online for Jericho Terrace and Terrace on the Park in Flushing. Basically my questions are where do I begin in this wedding planning, and what type of questions should I ask when looking for venues, Sorry about the long post.

Hello and welcome!

What type of venue do you want?
For how many guests?

I think you should look at at least a few outside of your two or three.

Ask them about their minimums
Always try to negotiate

Definitely ask on the 2011 and 2012 boards, as well.

Re: new bride

Congrats & welcome!!! First and foremost you should write out a rough guest list and budget. Then based on that you can look through the venues on this site and choose which ones to visit. I attended a wedding at Sand Castle in April and it was beautiful- the grounds were absolutely gorgeous and the food fantastic. My wedding was a Jericho Terrace so I'm a little biased. I love that place! Check out my review for more info and pictures! And happy planning!

Thank You. I attended a wedding at the Sand Castle over the Thanksgiving weekend. It was beautiful. I was very impressed with the the cocktail hour and the viennese hour as well. There were about 150 guest. I was wondering what type of questions should I ask when I go in to speak to someone there. Will I have to arrange my own dj and pick my own flowers and also will there be another wedding at the same time.

It is one wedding at a time, they have a minimum of 175 but can probably be talked down to 150, you have to get your own flowers and DJ and all those other vendors but they will give you a piano player for the CH very cheap. They have vendors that they work with but you should probably just go out and shop around.

Loula is super if you want to ask for her when you make your appointment but I'm sure they are all great. Ask anything and everything you want to know, they will answer. When you go see them they will basically walk you through the wedding while showing you the place. Whatever you are wondering ask away, that's what they are there for.

Hello!! Congrats and welcome!

I'm a JT bride, so if you have any questions ask away!

I would ask as many questions as you-

- how many people fit in the room? how many people per table?
- what is the minimum?
- get price quotes for different times of day and times of the year for comparison
- how early can you go to take pics?
- check out the bridal suite
- how many bridal attendants do you get?
- how many waiters per table?
- does the RH provide a cake?
- how much for extras (viennese hour, chocolate fountain, etc)
- how many weddings at a time
- Where to take pics? (indoor/outdoor)

Welcome and CONGRATULATIONS! You'll become addicted to LIW as all us LIW brides are.

I'll find a old post I posted about venue questions. Don't ask 'EVERY' question, look through the list and pick the ones that fit you.

As far as where to start: I'd say

Enjoy being engaged.
Look for RH to get prices and date avaiibilty
Set budget
Ideal guest list (just incase your RH has a min)
Photographer
DJ
Dress
Limos
etc

Good Luck

Re: new bride

Here it is:

Take pictures while your there to help you remember later.

What dates are available in the month I’m considering?
Find out prices for different times of the day/days of the week.
How many people can this location accommodate?
What the minimum is?/maximum?
How much is the deposit, when is it due, and is it refundable? What’s the payment plan for the entire bill?
Can I hold my ceremony here, too? Is there an additional charge? Is the ceremony site close to the reception site? Is there a bride’s changing area? How much time is allocated for the rehearsal?
What’s the cancellation policy? NOTE: Some places will refund most of your deposit if you cancel far enough in advance (often 60 days), since there’s still a chance they can rent the space. After a certain date, though, you may not be able to get a refund—at least not a full one).
Is there an outdoor space where my guests can mingle, and can it be heated and/or protected from the elements if necessary? Is there a separate indoor “socializing” space?
Do they own enough chairs for the ceremony?
Are there any other weddings on the same day? Worth asking if you don’t want to share the spotlight.
]How early can you get there to take pics?
Do vendors eat free? 1/2 price?
Price for kids?
What type of liquor? (top shelf?)
Can we do a food tasting?
Can I hire my own vendors (caterer, coordinator, DJ, etc.), or must I select from a preferred vendor list? If I can bring my own, do you have a list of recommended vendors?
Can you use candles and throw confetti?
What extras can be added on?
What they can throw in for you?

And most important-
NEGOGIATE!!!! Alot of halls will go down in price!!
