Best advice I've gotten in the process is
1) Start early. People are going to tell you it's too soon. Seriously. it goes by fast. Get organized now.
2) Be conservative about whom you send STDs to. It's easy tog et excited, but a lot can change in months or a year and then you're stuck. I'd recommend only sending them to family and OOT guests.
3) The first things you need to look for are ceremony and reception venues. After that I'd go for photo/video (after all, that's what you'll have after the fact) and entertainment (DJ or Band). Start looking for your gown a year out. You'll have to order usually by the 8 month mark.
4) I actually found that ordering my invitations did kind of help me set the tone and theme for my wedding, oddly enough.
5) Set a budget! WeddingWire.com has an amazing tool!

Welcome and congratulations on your engagement!
1. It's never to soon to start planning but take a little time to enjoy being engaged first. The planning will be there.
2. Set a budget!
3. Book your RH and Church first. The photographer and videographer should probably come next.
4. Looking at halls online really helped me get an idea of where I wanted to look.
5. People will have things to say no matter what you do but bottom line is. It's YOUR wedding. Do what makes you and your FH happy.
6. Don't be afraid to ask for opinions/advice on here. Everyone is really helpful.
