New girl in town

Hi all..I'm new to the board and wanted to start off with a question. I have the choice of a Saturday wedding at 11am or a Sunday night wedding and I'm not sure what to take. I was thinking that a Saturday is better than Sunday because people have to work on Monday but...some people (mom in particular) think that Saturday at 11am is too early..What do you guys think?

I love Saturday weddings...even if they're at 11am. I'm not a big fan of Sunday weddings because people usually leave early and are sometimes uninterested in going..IMO

First and foremost, WELCOME!!!! Now I'll let you in on my little secret. Im having my reception on a sunday night of columbus day weekend so everyone has monday off. I still got the price of a regular sunday night, but with the advantage of having it on a holiday weekend!!!

Hi - Welcome!

I think it depends on the atmosphere you want. I ve been to sat. afternoon weddings and it feels less like a party because you have the entire day left....JMO its almost like once you get your drink on, its over.... unless of course your lunatic FMIL makes you go back to her house to 'hang out with her family'....but I digress.

I'm having a saturday morning wedding. It is early, but I like that it will be all over around 5:30 and then FH and I can party the rest of the night ourselves or can opt for a small afterparty at the hotel.

I do not like saturday morning weddings, they are over so fast and it is usually so early, I would choose the Sunday night and let people know in advance..if I had a Sunday night wedding to atend I would probably take Monday off or go in late.

I choose Friday. Allows people to have a 3-day weekend. And it's less expensive....

I would also consider how many out-of-town guests you have when picking the day. If you have a lot of people traveling, Sunday night probably isn't the best choice unless it's a holiday weekend. Most people will leave on Sunday. But if you don't have a lot of OOT guests, this isn't an issue.

Just something to think about...

actually i do have a lot of out of town guests from jersey brooklyn or oneonta but my mom seems to think that 11am is too early for them to come but i think i'd rather come saturday morning then leave late sunday night

Re: New girl in town

Can you do Sunday afternoon? I had my ceremony at 2 and my reception from 3 -8. It was a choice of this or Saturday at 11 am bc my guest list wasn't big enough for a Saturday night. I chose Sunday bc 8:00 was still early enough for OOT guests to leave and be home at a reasonable time to go to work on Monday. My sisters, on the otehr hand, had Saturday am weddings and it turned out fine. Another factor to consider is where the reception is located. Mine was all the way on the north fork of Long Island so there was no way I could expect guests to arrive at 11am. Either way, the people you want to be there will be there ... for you!

Welcome!

I personally like Saturday weddings better. It is a bit early, but then you have the evening if you want to host an after-party. Also gives people traveling the option of coming in Friday night, and leaving on Sunday without taking time off.

Enjoy the planning!

I am having a saturday afternoon wedding and it is still going to be a party. I think that you could do either. But I don't ever think that it is not a party because of the time!

Def Sat. at Sunday weddings are usally quieter cause people have to work the next day. On sat afternoons you can have an after party at the hotel too

Re: New girl in town

hello!! i just joined this site last night too!!

my best friend had an 11 am wedding last November. we had to get up by 5:00 am to get to hair and make-up and prepare for the wedding. by the end of the day when we had the after party, we were all pretty exhausted.

i don't think its too early for the guests.. (you will prolly have some late arrivals though) but it will be early for the wedding party and you may have trouble sleeping the night before because you're so excited!!!

i guess you have to take a couple of things into consideration - will your wedding party be ok with getting up and preparing very early? will you have enough time to prepare? also will everyone be able to attend a sunday evening wedding? especially if you're having out of town guests?

good luck! hope this helps.

I prefer 11am - so if people want to go out later on Sat - they can

I prefer Sat afternoon. My wedding is on a sat at 11am. I feel like I'll actually be able to enjoy my wedding night. Also I have a lot of kids in our wedding party who are very important to us and wouldn't be able to stay awake too late.

Plus, I'm probably not going to get much sleep the night before anyway, so the sooner it is, the better
