Just figured I'd introduce myself. I just got engaged 6/27...and I have no idea where to even begin I've been lurking on here for a couple of weeks, and I figured it was time to speak up. LOL.
Any words of advice will be greatly appreciated
Jess

Hi Jess! Congratulations! Also, make a 'mock' guest list so you know what size place you should be looking for.

Re: New Here
Welcome and CONGRATULATIONS! As others suggested we did a mock guest list to figure out how big of a RH we needed. Then we made a list of basic 'must haves' for our RH so we could narrow the list. Then we set a budget and worked from there.
So far, we've only booked the RH and the church and we're kind of relaxing until the end of the summer, right now we're focusing on details like colors, BP, and stuff like that so we can get an over all 'feel' of the wedding.

Thanks for all the good wishes!!!
We actually made up a mock list the very next morning...we were excited. Almost all of the bridal party has been asked. I'm most stressed about booking a hall and the church. I bought myself a notebook and I'm just starting to make lists galore. LOL. I think once September comes we're going to start looking at halls. But EVERYONE keeps telling me I need to book NOW. How true is this?? Which should I book first, hall or church?

Re: New Here
i booked the RH first, then the church. I wanted to make sure i got the hall sqaured away... just don't tell the church you booked the RH first because they tend to frown upon that
its not too early if you start to look now, lots of places are even booking 2011 dates! but you can take your time if you want, you don't have to rush into it if you don't want to

Re: New Here
Whether you should book now is highly subjective! If you trying to get married 10/10/10 then hop to it, cause that date is probably almost gone. I think that there is a huge hype here on LIW to do everything fast and grand, i think you should just pace yourself. Granted I booked rather early (we are paying for it ourselves), I think you should just go with the flow. Visit halls twice or thrice if need be, but just make sure that you that this is it feeling.

I booked the RH then the church (Shhh... don't tell the church) No, you don't have to book NOW you have plenty of time... If you want a SPECIFIC date in 2010 I'd start looking now... I was surprised at how many 2010 dates were already booked a month ago. If it's a matter of 'we want to get married in 2010' you have time.
I got the church out of the way because FH wants to get confirmed (it's not required) and we need time for that.
We booked early because we're paying ourselves too, and I wanted to spread the deposits apart.. it was clearly economical

Re: New Here
welcome! you should deffinitely start looking at places and coming up with what your priorities are (outside areas, types of food etc.), but you dont NEED to book now.
But I do think starting early gives you more time to plan, and then planning can be more relaxed and spread out and not as stressful.
Congrats!

Re: New Here
welcome! I agree with all the ladies. the only thing i would add is to also enjoy being newly engaged for a while because wedding planning can be a tad bit overwhelming at times. pace yourself and enjoy every moment!
