I got offered a new job but, my mom says that starting a new job the same time I am getting married is too stressful. Besides I would have to travel often. Do you think it would be too stressful?

Re: New job and wedding plans???
I was considering taking a new position as well. but ended up not changing my position. I guess it all depends on how elaborate and involved you want to be in your wedding planning.
if you get a bulk if it done now, then it shouldn't be a problem. Just remember to tell your new employers that you will be getting married, so that they know you might have to take time off prior to being there 6 months for wedding obligations.

Re: New job and wedding plans???
I think it's probably too stressful. I don't know how long you've been at your current job but they are probably more flexible than a new company would be with regards to taking off. I thought about it too but there is no way I will get 4 weeks vacation, 5 personal, unlimited sick and 10 holidays with a new company plus the flexibility to come and go as I please.

Is it more money? Would you be doing something you really want to do? Would FH mind your travling? I think those are the most important questions. Your wedding is going to happen and unfortunatley it is only one day. How will this job effect the rest of you life?

Re: New job and wedding plans???
I'm leaving my current job immediately before the wedding (taking all my vacation at the very end so I can get benefits for June), then hopefully going to be starting a new job in July. I'm moving to NJ with FH, so I needed a new job (currently live in Philly and work about 15 miles south)....plus I am SO ready to leave my job....so I think you can do it, but it might be rough during the end of planning. After the wedding might be better...

Also keep in mind the economy right now. Last one hired is usually the first one let go if times get bad. Way the pros and cons of each job. Write them down and make a clear decision. Sometimes money isn't everything and the grass isn't always greener. Can you tell I am in HR?

Re: New job and wedding plans???
I was asked to run a summer camp this summer - starting now...with wedding, teaching, and school - I might have jumped off a cliff...but I coulda used the money, it was hard to say no. I'm still regretting it a little. Do you think you'll regret not taking the job? Is it a good opportunity?

I'm in grad school in Chicago, preparing to move to DC for the Summer, move to Seattle after I get my masters in August, then start a job from the West Coast in Sept, writing for an East Coast paper while I plan my Oct 2008 NY wedding living in Washington State.

FH and I are in the same boat. Sometimes you have to do what works for you, and make it work!

Re: New job and wedding plans???
I am going through this now as well...I am going for a second interview for financial advisor co. They seem very eager to have me on board but it is a cut throat business and I'd have to study and take 3 tests and go to georgia for 1 week ...it is very overwhelming to even think about that with a full time job with crazy hours a wedding to plan and not to mention FH and my plans to start a family within first year of marriage.

Re: New job and wedding plans???
HAHA! You guys sure do have lot going on! Thanks for the advice. Its more money but, I am not sure if it what I want to do. But, the money is tempting when it comes to the wedding. I can just see myself having to do a million things a few weeks before the wedding and having to travel. Plus, FI doesn't want me to. He wants to spend alot of time together since we will be married

Re: New job and wedding plans???
i started a new job at the end of October, 6 months before the wedding (we also bought a house in september). things have been stressful at times adjusting to the new routine, but I definitely made the right choice for me. I'm now in a job that I could see myself in for many years.

Re: New job and wedding plans???
I got engaged about 2 weeks after starting a new job....and that new job definitely added to the stress. but, in the long run it was a good move....is this new position going to be better for you?....will it be good for your future career moves, etc. IMO, I would consider all of the + and - about choosing the new position....not just turn it down because of possible stress
