Hello everyone, I'm new to this board and came it across it after I did a search on google. I got engaged in September but don't know where to start! Any suggestions? Should I book a church or the reception first? I know we want our wedding date on 10/10/09 because that's our 5 year anniversary but beyond that I'm clueless---lol

Hi and Congratulations
I would suggest seeing if the church is available on the date you want and then see if it works with the CH of your choice.
I am having my ceremony and reception at the same place so that made it easier. The mistake I made was booking my reception hall before checking with the band I really wanted.
Check the date of the thing that is most important to you and then see if you can cordinate it accordingly.
The most important thing IMO are the catering facility and entertainment.

My sister suggested that I book the church first but I don't think we're getting married anywhere near where my parish is. I know she had a hard time finding a church that would marry her around where she's having the reception (since that wasn't her parish). I just hope that I don't have that problem. If it were up to me I'd get married in the hall but my fiance insists we get married in a church!
