New Orleans

What do you ladies think about going to New Orleans? FH wants to go for a couple of days, but I have heard the crime rate is high since the hurricane. Anyone know anything? TIA

I'm going for business April 1-4. I'll let you know how it is. I've heard some bad things, but I'm not going to let that ruin my time.

Friends of mine are going in early April, and they got great deals on airfare and hotels. I can't imagine that the crime rate is higher than on an average day in NY.

Thanks Ladies...we got a great deal on airlfare and hotel for the middle of April...and its the W hotel (like the one in the city) so I think it will be ok. I keep hearing as long as we stay in the french quarter area, it is fine. I've never been, but FH has, and he loved it. I'll keep you updated!!

Well, put it this way: BEFORE Hurricaine Katrina, New Orleans had the highest crime rate in the entire country. Can't be much worse than than now, can it? And with that crime rate, I went a few years ago and we stayed in the Garden District (beautiful old houses) and took a 5-minute streetcar ride to the French Quarter, and never felt unsafe. Go! Have fun!

Re: New Orleans

my whole family lives down there (well the suburbs slidell). it really isn't that bad. just watch your purse! actually don't even carry your purse with you, leave it home. my mom right after christmas had her brand new dooney & burke wallet stolen while we were at a bar on bourbon st. I think she dropped it on the floor though and someone grabbed it. actually just on bourbon st if you go carry cash in your pocket. the w hotel is soooo nice. I actually just got back today from new orleans. the weather was so beautiful. make sure to eat at pat o briens, and go to the riverwalk. and tony morans was great too if you like italian. and that cafe du monde place for beignets.
