I have been married for 9.5 years. When we first got married, we were dirt poor. My e-ring is in a very pretty setting but the main stone is a chip. Over the years, I have gotten a few digs from nasty people about this and it bothers Matt to no end. Matt wants to buy me a nice new e-ring but I was thinking of just getting a bigger stone in this one.
What do you ladies think?

You could also have your original stone added into a completely new ring, depending on the condition of the band and the setting also.

if you have the money, id say to get a new one, because if you keep the old ring they are going to need to build a new prong setting on it.. and if you have a daugher, you can give your daughter your first engagement ring, as a pass down

if you would be happier with a bigger/nicer/different ring & can afford it, then get it. i'm sure you will treasure it just as you do your original ring. but don't do it to avoid the 'digs' of others. they are rude & obnoxious.
