Re: New to LI WEDDINGS
Welcome!!!! Everyone here is very nice and helpful so if need anything just ask. My son is getting married in 18 days! on Labor Day so we are in the midst of finalizing everything. It is fun and hectic at the same time. I'm one of the lucky ones who found her dress in less than one day. Just went in 'looking' and found it. Your daughter is getting married on my wedding anniversary. It is the longest day of the year, but a good one. Speak to you soon. Liz P.S. Good luck

Re: New to LI WEDDINGS
Hi Liz!! How sweet of you to reply!! Debi and Fred are having a beach themed wedding, hence Long Island. They plan to marry in the gazebo at Chateau La Mer, in Great South Bay, which is on a dock, with a view of the water, but no beach. While pics will be taken there, they also, as a couple, would like to have pics taken at Fire Island. I believe Debi is checking on permits etc. She also has to check on getting her color of linen overlays, etc. She has looked here in Lancaster County, and has found some in her color. However, I told her it would be easier to try to get everything in New York, rather than bring all the dirty linens home! And, they need to be cheap. Since everything is going on in Long Island, I have been taking a back seat, but that's ok, because Debi and Fred are doing a great job! Recently, I got to be part of wedding planning, when Debi invited me to go with her, to look for a wedding band, that would lock into her unique diamond. She found one that matched, and was the right price, so she's excited! Then, we went to the mall, and checked out potential bridesmaid gifts, at Hallmark, Things Remembered, and a quilted bag shop. Debi really liked one particular quilted bag, in pink and black, and they can be personalized, and in your wedding color. She also is looking at lipstick cases at Things Remembered. Debi sells Mary Kay, on the side, so she might include some of those products in the gifts. We also went to 'Vicky's Secret', so Deb could look at honeymoon attire. Hello!! Where are the beautiful peignoir sets you use to carry?? I guess that shows how old I am!! We had a fun day!! Now if I can find that pesky MOB dress!! Congratulations and Many Blessings to you and your family, on the upcoming wedding!!!!!!! Mary

Re: New to LI WEDDINGS
Hi Mary Chataeu LaMer is beautiful and was one of the places Nina and Peter were thinking of having their wedding. They choose Russo's on the Bay instead which is a more central location for all of our guests a lot which are from out of town. Russo is also magnificent. Nina and Peter live in Albuquerque right now so the planning has been long distance. Nina does as much as she can from there and the rest of the running around I do. It's been fun...I feel like a kid again. They are a very special couple and I am very lucky to have Nina as a daughter in law. Peter spent a year in Iraq and she waited for him and started planning the wedding without him here with the help of her parents and myself. This is going to be a very special wedding....it is also taking place two days before Peter's birthday. Needless to say I will be in tears at this wedding. I'm at work now, but get time to come on and visit with the other moms and girls....it's fun! Liz
P..S. Have patients you will find your gown. Any idea what type or color you would like?

Re: New to LI WEDDINGS
Hi Liz!! Ok, now I'm getting teary!! You're right, that will be such a Special Day!! I have a Friend whose Son served in Iraq, and is home now. I'd like to get a pastel shade of Debi's color, which hasn't been finalized yet, because she's not sure it will be available. But it's in the teal, aqua family. I'd like to find a tea length, and no heavy jacket, menopausal, don't cha know!!!! Debi assures me the breeze off the bay will keep it from getting hot. And , then, there's my Mom, lovingly called 'Cupcake'. I go by 'Frosting. Mom is 79, and because of osteoporosis, and that hump on the back that goes with it, she's a shorter version of her lovely self, about 4 feet 10 inches. I'd like to find a pretty dress for her, as well. Actually, we're planning to go shopping for other dresses soon, for my niece's wedding, coming up on Sept. 8th. Tell me about your June wedding. I had a Christmas themed wedding, on Dec. 9th Ben and I will celebrate our 35th anniversary. My bridesmaids made their red velvet gowns, and carried white fur muffs. My Honor Attendant had red roses on her muff, while the others had holly. Our wedding cake had holly on it. We had a surprise when the sanctuary wasn't finished on time... building program, so the basement was prepared for our ceremony, and it was an all nighter to do it!! Interestingly, they laid red carpet in the basement, while the sanctuary carpet was purple!! I thought the red was a better coordinating color!! I do regret having my reception in the local fire hall, because the fire attire, helmets, etc. could be seen in our wedding pics. If I had it to do over.... But, Dad passed away, suddenly, at age 43, of a heart attack, in July of 1971, so there wasn't much money to plan a wedding. I'm blessed that I got an engagement ring, because I married a man who use to be Amish. While he's a great guy, we had some cultural obstacles to go through.I mistakingly thought he saw everything from my perspective, because he was no longer Amish!! We didn't cover those things in our marriage counseling!!. The Amish don't wear jewelry. The other cultural difference I recall was that I wanted a Christmas tree, and Ben wasn't use to that tradition. I remember hanging the ornaments on one of those aluminum trees, that Mom gave us,with thread!! You'll be happy to know that Ben has come a long way in 35 yrs.!!! The only thing he really minds now is all the presents I buy for the kids and Shaun, the 'apple of our eye', Grandson. But aren't most men like that?? Yesterday as I was reading a funny book about getting old, I read of other men who are that way. But, again, the Amish don't give a lot of gifts at Christmas. The emphasis is mostly on the meal, and giving a few little things to the children. And with my Husband, it would have indeed been a few 'little' things, since there were 11 kiddos!! So, Ben's views on gift giving could have come from his family traditions. Isn't it nice to have this forum, to share? One gift I'm working on for Debi and Fred, as well as my niece, are family histories. I love genealogical research, and taking pictures!! The biggest part of preparing this gift, is the organization of everything. It will be really neat when it's finished!! I have documented with pics, not only family graveyards, but places our family has lived, worked, attended church, schools, etc. While the kids might not fully appreciate it now, I'm sure it will be of value later. I'm so glad I got the family info I did, before some precious family members left us. Which brings me to this: Debi and Fred will be remembering those dear ones, by perhaps having a rosebud for each, in an arrangement, at the wedding. I see I've gone on too long. Thanks for the reply, Liz!!! P.S. In case anyone sees spelling errors etc. I usually use the number 14 type in e-mails, and I've only been a computer user since Dec. of '06, so please excuse. Thanks!!

Re: New to LI WEDDINGS
I can't help you posting pics, but I am sure some of the young girls can. This is my second marriage and we are only married 10 years now. My sons are from my first marriage. But as the old song goes love is better the second time around and it really is. I'm Italian and my husband is Jewish so we had a priest and a rabbi marry us. It was beautiful. It is his first marriage so I did everything as if it were a first marriage for me too. My sons walked me down the aisle it was beautiful. I'm sure your mom will look adorable....as for the menopaus hot flashes I'm done so I don't and never did get hot flashes. I was lucky because I just kind of just lost it without a lot of trouble. I'm wearing a color that is called gold turgoise. My sister in law says it looks like the ocean in the Caribbean only a deeper shade. I wore violet to my older son's wedding. If you do a search on here called my FMIL got her dress Yay with a date between 12/26 and 1/1/07 you will be able to see it. It is by Nina. Just don't leave it up because we have lurkers. Let me know if you like it. My brother has a house in the Poconos and is near the outlets....are you able to go there for your dress? If not can you travel to Manhattan or Brooklyn. I live in Brooklyn.....born and bred Brooklyn Italian LOL I'm sure where ever you go you will find something that you love. It may take time, but as soon as you have the dress on you will know it is the one. Good luck!

Hi Liz!! I'll wait 'til later to get Debi to help me. She didn't have any problems getting the same picture to upload. I just wanted to to post it. You know how Moms and pics are!! We have a store called Doneckers, in Ephrata, Pa. where I can look. And I can go to King of Prussia, but I've already looked on-line, at the KOP stores, and didn't see anything. Mary

It's my son who is getting married, but my FDIL is like my daughter or as close to be my daughter as any daughter in law could be because I love her as a daughter. As for giving out her screen name....I would have to let her do that.

Re: New to LI WEDDINGS
Hi Girls!! Here I am, eating some delcious fried chicken, and Bob Evans mashed potatoes!! Yum!! Diet?? What diet?? Well, I did remove the skin, is that enough?? Ok, I'm diabetic, and trying to lose 24 more pounds for Debi's wedding, and I'm a retired nurse, so I do know better, but on a chilly day in Lancaster County, and while keeping our Grandson, we're both just enjoying our chicken and mashed potatoes!! Oops, think some chicken just got in my keyboard!! I've put myself on my 1200 calorie diet. I've lost about 11 lbs. Liz, that's another reason, why I haven't gotten a dress yet. Wanted to wait 'til I lose the weight. I recently told someone that what I miss the most is pasta, and pizza!! I haven't eaten pasta for a long time! What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Mary - you are funny...fried chicken and mashed potatoes umm, but with exactly 2 weeks to go I am staying away from that. By any chance would you know of some good mother/son songs for us to dance to that are different then those listed on here?

Re: New to LI WEDDINGS
Hey there!! Liz, it's me again!! Concerning Mother/Son Dance Songs, I just left a message on Deb's cell, about that. The song they've chosen, evokes tears, I'm told... Are you having a good day? I just got up!! I'm nursing tendonitis right now. One morning, I reached across the bed, to grab the clock, and felt something pull in my right arm, the one I use. Being the trooper I am,I just went on about my day, taking Mom and me to grocery shop. Bad idea!! That evening, I was in so much pain, I went to the family practice, where I boo-hooed a LOT!! I was given a shot of morphine, put into an immobilizer, and sent for x-rays. I felt fairly better, while in the waiting room, of Radiology, but after my x-rays, I got very dizzy, and VERY SICK!!! I was told the morphine probably was the culprit. I was also told no fractures, and go see my Orthopedic Dr. But sleeping over the weekend was next to impossible, and again, I was in tears. Went to the ER on Sun. to see if anyone could help. The Dr. prescribed Darvocet........GREAT MED!!!!!!!!! I finally had a better sleep!! And, when I went to the Ortho. Dr. I was diagnosed and given cortisone, another very awesome med!!!! I'm presently having GUMBYSIZE, aka therapy, twice a week. After I do arm strengthening, the therapist pulls my arm every which way!! The moral of this story, for me, is that I'm approaching my Golden Years sooner than I thought, and move very slowly!!! instead of quickly reaching for things!!! Mom/Son Dance Alert!!!!! Deb called, saying Fred and his Mom plan to dance to'The Perfect Fan' by The Backstreet Boys. She said at the end, it speaks of 'Mom' always being his fan, and he tells her he loves her!! Awwwww! Also, Deb is taking a second look at the Bridesmaid Luncheon, since the German Parade will most likely be on again sometime. Yea!!! Debi also said I could talk about their vendors, etc. She plans to use the sparkly starfish guestbook, ringbearer pillow, cake server, etc. I would love it if she could find the matching Bridal Purse, but it looks like it's not available. She plans to order from Frugal, on-line? The following are their vendors: Enchanted Videos,Thomas Paul Photography,After Hours Music and Entertainment, Cruise Control Limo.,Black Forest Bakery, and Marriott Courtyard LI, in Farmingdale. Although Deb's a little upset, because the original agent they spoke to told them they could use Fred's Marriott points, they are now told, they can't. Change of command.... Let me regather my thoughts, and go eat breakfast, and will chat later? Mary

Re: New to LI WEDDINGS
Hi Liz!! Ok, I'm back!! Forgot to say, the flowers will be from April Flowers? Debi is giving 'message in a bottle', to their participants. We found a seashell graphic, on my Hallmark Card software that was the color Debi wanted. She printed it at the top of her parchment, that goes into each bottle, and she composed appropriate verses for each person in the wedding. She will also include a second paper, giving the responsibilities of the participant. They plan to send STD magnets, that have a pic., that looks like the dock at Chateau La Mer, her reason being it will be the first day of summer, and many think about vacation. Another way she wants to save money, is to find a Pastor from Long Island, to officiate. There would be traveling, hotel, and fee expenses involved if their Pastor would travel to Long Island. It's been raining 'cats and dogs' here !!! My Grandson, Shaun, and I headed for McDonalds, and then to the grocery store for more of their delicious CHICKEN!!!!! My Husband, Son, and Grandson love it!! And, I told Debi-Bride-on-a-tight -budget, to come for some too!! Have a great evening, and yes, your 'Daughter' is lovely!!! By the way, when I first saw the pic of you and your Son, I thought that was the happy couple!! Guess my bifocals weren't focaling!! Toodles!! Mary

Forgot to post that Debi and Fred plan to go to Excellence Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, for their honeymoon.
