New to LIW? here are some FAQ

Original post by marymoon

1. How do I get the title above my avatar picture to change?

You can change it when you reach 1000 posts. Until then it will display as Board Newbie, Board Enthusiast, Board Fanatic, etc, depending on your post count. You can change it by going to 'My account' You can also use this tab to change your profile info or pic or your avatar pic.

2. How do I get my LIW T - Shirt?

It will be sent automatically after you reach the 1000 mark.

3. I changed my avatar picture and I still see the old one, what happenned?

You need to refresh your browser by hitting the F5 Key

4. How do I resize a photo?

First of all, the easiest way to make most files smaller is to turn them into jpegs. This will compress the file size. How do you do this? Open the file in MS Photo Editor, click 'save as' and select jpeg. Then go to my computer and hold your mouse over 'whatever.jpeg' and a little box will pop up with the size of the file. If it's under 60Kb, you're good to go, if not you'll have to resize.

In MS Editor, go to image and g to resize it. it goes by percentage, so you'll have to do a litte math. if the picture is 300kb, you need to reduce it to under 20% to keep it under the 60kb limit.

Sound complicated? No problem, you can use the image resizer (located to the right of the 'forum mail' button) and the site will email you back your pics already resized. Voila!

5. What does FMIL/FH/DH/STD/OOT mean?

Up on the upper right hand side of the screen there is a button that says 'chat lingo' (it's right below 'Store'. Click on this and it will explain!

6. This is a great thread! How do I save it and all of the other great threads I like with great info about centerpieces, hairstyles, etc?

That's easy! All you have to do is click on the 'add to notebook icon.' Thsis is a tiny little icon all the way on the right, it looks like a plus sign and a little yellow piece of paper. Click on it and you'll get a message that says 'this thread has been added to your notebook.' How to view it later? Go to 'My Account' 'Notebook.' This will save you a lot of searching later!

7. I've been following a thread quite closely, is there any way to zip right to the latest response?

What will they think of next? Of course there is! On the main page that lists all of the current topics, all the way on the right you'll see 'latest activity' along wiht who posted it and when. To the right of that you'll see an orange arrow. Clicking on this will take you right to the newest post in the thread.

8. Where can I find info about a particular hall/florist/photographer/other vendor?

You can always make a new thread to get information, but the best was is usually to doa search using the 'Search' button at the top of the page. Type in vendor name and hit search and voila! Another great tip is that you can choose to search only the Bride's Review board or just go on over to the Review board and browse through reviews. Almost every bride writes a review of most or all of her vendors after the wedding and many are quite detailed and specific and even contain large amounts of proofs so you can see everything from the photograher's work to how the flowers looked and more!

9. How do you 'bump' a post?

The thread with the most recent post on it is alwyas at the top, so in order to get a post to the top, all you have to do is find it (you can use the search feature) and reply and say anything, really. BUMP means 'Bring Up My Post', so you can write that. HTH

Feel free to add, clarify or ask a question!

what about attaching a saved thread to a post.

I see this done and I would like to know how to do it

I don';t know what you're referring to with this.

Do you mean how to add a hyperlink?

congis, after a year and a half and 8300 posts, I'd better know my way around. The one thing I can't give any advice on though is staying out of trouble!

Re: New to LIW? here are some FAQ

Question for those of you that say you don't subscribe to topics, how do you know when there is a response? OMG, I get hundreds of emails from this site daily, but I wouldn't keep up with conversations if I didn't. I just delete all of the same type until I'm left with the latest alert in my inbox so I can go back and check later. Yes, I'm anal, I know!

Re: New to LIW? here are some FAQ

I just look at the topic on the site and look at the latest response, who it's from and the time and I know if it's been responded to. If you're waiting for a response and you expect it right away, you can just keep hitting f5 to see the latest activity

Ha-ha! I don't have time to wait for responses. I usually only check the site at night before bed.

Once you get the hang of it, it's easy. I think you just have to do it.

Make sure it's openned in photo editor, and then image - resize..voila.

I'm just not sure how to tell how many KBs I have... for some reason no matter how small I seem to make it, LIW is still saying it's too large... hmmm is it including the grey box with the picture size? i'm confused.

Bump means Bring Up My Post and it brings a post to top of boards.

If you click on Chat Lingo above it gives you lots of commonly used abbreviations on these boards. Hope that helps!
