New to this - advice on glen cove mansion as a venue??

Hi ladies,
Have been stalking this site for a few weeks and found it really helpful! Am trying to plan a wedding long distance and was hoping some of you could give me feedback on Glen cove mansions as a venue, we were hoping to use it as a destination wedding, we have a lot of out of town guests - any thoughts, good, bad, ugly!???

Any similar venue suggestions, we like the idea of everyone staying at the same place but didnt want to do a typical hotel..

Thanks!!!

You should definitely check out East Wind....it's beautiful there! I looked at Geln Cove and really wasn't impressed with the hotel or what they had to offer...

The 'mansions' here on Long Island aren't anywhere as nice as the ones in England to be honest, well at least compared to the ones I saw when I lived in the UK.
Maybe Oheka Castle in Huntington would be a place to look at. Also, I personally have never been there, but a relative was trying to convince me to have my wedding in New Jersey at Natirar, because she lives near there, but that was not what I wanted, she's the only one on my side who lives near there.
And the FI's side is coming from the UK but they'll go anywhere, there's not many of them coming from the UK I dont think.
Good luck! Your 'mansions' and castles in the UK are much nicer though!

Oh yeah and Oheka has some hotel rooms, but Fox Hollow hotel is only a few miles down the street... you could probably book there.

I didn't do Oheka as a relative of mine had her wedding there and I didn't want to repeat.

I would have LOVED to do Oheka but sadly they are a bit outside my budget, they quoted me 275pp + 10K site fee, which is a bit crazy..

Disappointed to hear Glen Cove didnt impress, we have a lot of people coming from London so thought it would be great to have everyone stay together and treat this as a vacation - glen cove had seemed perfect for that, since they have a lot of activities, pool, tennis, etc.

I'll give East Wind a call tomorrow, it looks nice on the website.

oh a totally separate note, has anyone seen central park boathouse? if we dont go down this vacation-spot route, we were considering doing something very New York - cant think of more NY than CP!

thanks guys, really appreciate the input!

The boathouse seems like an awesome idea! There's also Capitale in the city too. That would definitely be an awesome destination wedding! I don't know how much though! I think it may be pricey. I didn't look into the city as the old folks refused to go into the city. Oh well...
DeSeversky is a 'mansion' on a school campus on long island. If you ever watched the original movie Arthur with Dudley Moore its the house they used... I went to a wedding there and the building is nice but my mom complained and complained about the food. I don't remember it being bad though! I really don't remember the food for that one. This was many years ago too.
Good luck!

Edit: Actually thinking about it I wouldn't go to DeSeversky as I'm assuming most of you guys won't be able to drive on Long Island. There's a lot more stuff to do in the city and it'd be easier to get around! We don't have public transportation like they do in the UK!

Congratulations! Glen Cove mansion looks lovely to me. Check out the reviews. The Boat House is lovely but small. You did not mention how large your wedding would be. Also, June is prime time in this area. You could try Bourne Mansion as well. Lessings has a group of mansions for which they cater. Top notch food and service but less expensive than the castle.

I wasn't thrilled with Glen Cove mansion at all. The room is set up strange and didn't have the feel I was looking for. I went in thinking I was going to love it and left pretty disappointed. It's a shame bc the outside is so beautiful!

Not sure why PSP put mansions in quotes. There are some beautiful mansion venues on Long Island. But I agree that it might be easier to look in the city.

East Wind was great.
