New Years Eve Get together...help please

HI Ladies...well my hubby and I are hosting our first new years eve this year..totally informal..we still have no furniture and the house isnt set up yet but we want to have like an open door thingy. I was thinking of making our d ourves (sp) but I dont know what except pigs in a blanket. I dont know how else to make this special except for alcohol. Does anyone have any suggestions? What to make? what to have? what to buy? All suggestions would be so appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!

Re: New Years Eve Get together...help please

I make pizza dip for all winter parties we have and attend, and always get compliments on it...

Ingredients
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sour cream
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1 cup pizza sauce
1/2 cup pepperoni
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 package shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions
1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2 In a small mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder and oregano. Spread this mixture into a 9-inch glass pie pan, and cover with shredded mozzarella. Spread pizza sauce evenly over the cheese. In a food processor, chop pepper, onion and pepperoni until they are in small pieces (I do all 3 ingredients together to save time). Spread evenly over pizza sauce.
3 Bake for 10 minutes.
4 When the dish is removed from the oven, sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the dish.
5 Return the pie pan to the oven and bake until the mozzarella cheese has melted.

Serve with bread sticks.

Enjoy! I'm sure your party is going to be a huge success!

The TGI FRidays brand of spinach artichoke dip is good-- you buy it frozen and microwave it. Serve it with Tostitos. They also sell at most delis bruschetta- you buy it already made and then you slice bread toast it and put the bruschetta on top.

Re: New Years Eve Get together...help please

Price club/ costco sells really good frozen Orderves.
If you don't feel like cooking alot, they are great, just pop them in the oven for a while. I buy the Variety pack which has the cocktail hotdogs, cheese puffs, mini spinach things etc..
They also sell awesome wings there ( also can just pop into the oven)
The party stores have great new years things like trays and paperware and decorations.
They have cute plastic champagne glasses too

Good Luck!

Re: New Years Eve Get together...help please

If you want something that looks fancy but is really easy try a veggie flower basket. All you need is a flower pot, shish-k-bob sticks , your favorite veggies, a bunch of parsley and a small peice of floral foam.
-Put the foam in the bottom of the flower pot
-Stick all you veggies on the shish sticks
-Stick the sticks in the foam
-Place the parsley around the top of the pot to cover the foam.
-You can put little ribbons on the sticks if you choose.
I'll try to get a picture on before new years.
(That's some stick, huh?)

Re: New Years Eve Get together...help please

Go to BJ's. They have alot of different h our derves (sp? lol!) So many different ones to choose from.

Also, cut up cucumbers, carrots & serve them with ranch dressing.

And this is always a big hit when I serve it:

Mexican Taco Dip.

Get tortillia chips

Make the dip:

Get softened cream cheese and spread it on the bottom of a microwaveable glass flat bowl

Add salsa on top of the cream cheese, then add shredded taco cheese & microwave for about 2 minutes. It is so awesome!

Re: New Years Eve Get together...help please

Definitely check out Bj's they have tons of frozen appetizers - fried ravioli (yum!), pigs in a blanket, wings, nuggets, etc.

Get some chips and veggies with dip, cheese and crackers.

Also - Stop * shop makes up appetizer and cheese platters to order.

My new favorite appetizer is fresh mozz wrapped with prociutto with balsamic vinagerette.

Have fun!

Re: New Years Eve Get together...help please

My favorite...stuff mushrooms. Very easy to make and it doesn't take too much time.

STUFFED MUSHROOM CAPS

1 dozen mediums to small-sized mushrooms
1/4 cup freshly chopped onion
1/4 stick of margarine or butter
1 garlic clove section
1/4 cup of wine (white zinfandel works well)
Italian-flavored breadcrumbs
Salt
Pepper
Paprika (approximately 1/4 - 1/2 tsp)
Sage or poultry seasoning (approximately 1/2 - 1 tsp)
1 fried bacon slice

Remove stems from caps. Chop stems into fine pieces.

Chop 1/4 cup onions and 1 section of garlic and sauté in 1/4 stick
Of melted butter or margarine in frying pan.

Add chopped mushroom stems and sauté until stems are soft. Flavor
With salt, pepper, paprika, and sage to taste.

Add wine and heat a minute or two so alcohol burns off. Crumble
in 1 slice of crisp, fried bacon.

Add Italian-flavored breadcrumbs until mixture is thick and stiff,
Enough to spoon.

Coat inside of caps with soft butter, gently spoon mixture into
Caps. Broil stuffed caps under broiler for 3-4 minutes (Time based
On gas oven).
