OK need some opinions here from the LIW girls. FH and I have thought about changing our wedding date to N.Y.E and I was curious what everyone thought...I always felt like it would be imposing on ppl's holiday plans to have a wedding that night. On the flip side we thought it would be cool b/c not everyone actually does stuff on New Years and it would be fun. He & love the idea, and I know that's all that should matter but I want to be realistic about everything....

As someone who rarely has fun plans for New Year's Eve, I think it would be fun to have a wedding to go to on that date! How are the prices for that night? Good luck with your decision!
i agree-- if we do go out it is costing us just as much, if not more, as a gift and i would rather the money go to a friend or loved one... also, if we don't go out it stinks! lol so i would love a NYE wedding!

omg, i so wanted a new year's eve wedding but fh didn't want a wedding in the winter. Definetely do it. Most people go out for great food and drinks, you would have it covered. very cool idea, and you should me able to get a great discount as well.

Re: New years Eve wedding
I’m a HUGE fan of getting married on NYE. Once I heard the idea I knew that was when I wanted to get married. I always wanted a winter wedding so NYE seemed like the perfect day. I think the holiday adds to the excitement of the day. I’ve heard great feedback from the guests that we have told so far. I do agree with the STD cards. I am giving one out at out E party on 9/30 and then I’ll mail something in Jan 2007. The halls we a little more $ but not that much and with anything the price is always negotiable. We did have a hard time fining a DJ we liked. Some places were charging double which was insane!! That’s why we book Starlight….my friend attended a wedding they did and loved them. They also did not double their price; they just charge us overtime. We were fine with that since our wedding is going until 2AM then we are having brandy and cigars from 2-3. Hope this helps! Feel free to FM me for any other info!!!!

Me and FH has talked about that. We did have some negative feedback but also alot of positives. It gives people something to do. When we talked about it - it would be Black Tie.

We went to one this past year. It was so much fun. I had originally like the idea but after attending one of a close friend felt we couldn't copy! I say go for it!!

Personally....I wouldn't mind going to a wedding on LI on new years...but if I was an OOT guest, I would probably turn it down only because of the increase rates for flights and or massive amount of traffic...
This is a good point to consider, another is...children. If you are not having kids at the wedding, I think think the people with young kids who need sitters, would have a very difficult time finding sitters....And if you DO have kids at the wedding, those parents will have a difficult time with them being up so late...the young kids will not be able to stay up that late and the parents would probably have to leave early.
Overall, I think it is a good idea, but that thought popped in my head...

Re: New years Eve wedding
I love the idea. I wonder whether the prices would be really high because it is a popular date for an affair. I would certainly love to go to a wedding. But it would have to start and end rather late.

i think it would be really cool. every year my friends & i complain that we didn't have anything to do for nye and that we'll do something for the upcoming nye....but we never do. so it would be great to actually have something to do.

Re: New years Eve wedding
I would think that it would cost a lot more than any other night. Everything would be more money but it would be a great idea!
I love the idea but you would really have to check out vendors to get an idea of price if that mattered to you.
I know going out on New Years eve can cost more than a regular price per plate and a catering hall.
