New years Eve wedding

Original post by toniscott

OK need some opinions here from the LIW girls.
FH and I have thought about changing our wedding date to N.Y.E and I was curious what everyone thought...I always felt like it would be imposing on ppl's holiday plans to have a wedding that night. On the flip side we thought it would be cool b/c not everyone actually does stuff on New Years and it would be fun. He & love the idea, and I know that's all that should matter but I want to be realistic about everything....

I think it is a great idea!

Most people don't have plans anyway and it will give them an excuse to get dressed up and go out!

Thanks girls..I'm thinking of having a company come in with plasma tv's for the midnight toast, and all that fun stuff!! The downside, the price is going to be high I think, and the ppl at the catering hall could be miserable....I think I'm going to seriously start to research pricing for that night and I'll let you all know how I make out

:)

I was actually going to suggest getting plazma screens to see the ball drop. I think it will be a great time!!

My mom has been to a couple of weddings on New Years Eve and LOVED them! She said she would rather give the $ to the couple rather than the place they go. They usually spend $500 on NYE to go to a catering hall-with dinner, dancing, and a hotel room for the night. She said these weddings are awesome!

I think it's a great idea!!!! I am getting married 2 days before NYE and everyone that I talk to is excited to have a fun 'party' to go to around the holidays.

Personally....I wouldn't mind going to a wedding on LI on new years...but if I was an OOT guest, I would probably turn it down only because of the increase rates for flights and or massive amount of traffic...

I think it's a great idea....FH usually prefers our living room to going out on NYE....but I think its great because it gives you a reason to go out, and....the money you spend is a gift instead of just paying a hall. Go for it!

Re: New years Eve wedding

ugh...not to be the only spoil sport here, but I really wanted a new years eve wedding, and was talked out of it....so I'll tell you what I heard in opposition to doing it on New Years eve....(don't hate me - you asked!)

fh was really worried about all of our guests on the road with all of the drunks on the road - god forbid anything ever happened ( I said that could happen ANY night, but he said that the odds are so much greater that night)

people with kids - many spend new years eve with their children - to ask people (especially those who aren't family or best friends) to not spend new years eve with their children is putting them in a tough spot.

more people with kids - those who might want to go to your wedding might have a really tough time getting babysitting

and, for us, logisitics - we want to be married in a church - they only do church weddings up to a certain time (3 pm?) at our church - if you want a party to last at least until 1, you have a huge time gap between church and reception start time.

then there's the cost - we thought we'd get a good deal - but the places we called wanted top $$ + since it was new years eve.....

I did love the idea - but I was shot down - hope yours happens (then can I be invited?!)

I personally would enjoy it, however there are def. some people that might not come such as extended family-or friends that might want to be with their own family on the holiday...

I like it - you may get some negative feedback - but im sure your guests would have a great time!

I think that would be awesome! You can get married there and do a late ceremony. Book the hall to 1 am and have something special done for midnight! How cool! I would totally go!

Suggestion: If you do this I would find a hotel close by and block rooms for all of your guests. Then offer shuttle service from the hotel to the reception and back. It's NYE and cops will be everywhere, guests will be drinking and you don't want anyone getting a ticket...or worse!

LOVE IT! Let us all know if you do it!!!
