Hi, I know I have been asking a lot of questions, but trying to pick a wedding date.
Has anyone been to or had a New Years Eve wedding? that way guests would have some time to unwind after the wedding because most have off on New Years. for those of you who have been to them, were they nice functions, and if you had or are planning one, does it shoot the price through the roof because of the holiday?
Thanks in advance

Friends of mine had a New year eve's wedding she said it was great. Didnt have to worry about making plans and was with family and friends. We loved it. Also she had a bus after the wedding to bring us to the hotel from the RH.

Re: New Years Eve Wedding
my MOH was just invited to a NYE wedding and she is complaing about it, how she wont go because its NYE and she doesn't want to go to a wedding on NYE and that driving home after the wedding there will be lots of drunk people on the roads.
Personally, I like the idea of a NYE wedding, no work the next day and set plans for that night with friends and family, etc...

I think it would be a lot of fun, and I'd definitely go.
The drawbacks, which are a drawback for all holiday weddings are mainly
1. travel and accomodations are more expensive and more of a hassle for OOT guests on holidays in general and
2. some people have traditions / long-standing holiday plans they may not want to break.
I'd definitely go to a NYE wedding, though!

Re: New Years Eve Wedding
I am getting married 2 days before New Years on the Saturday night right before..but when I was trying on dresses one woman said, 'why not a new year;s wedding?' I would love to go to a NYE wedding, but I didn't know how my guests would react. Plus, I also wanted to focus more on the Christmas holiday than NYE.

OMG I would LOVE a NYE wedding. That's a great idea. I think the only issues is that you would have to plan way in advance with a lot of the more popular RH's bc they tend to have their own parties which they sell seats/plates for. I know Fox Hollow, Jericho Terrace, Westbury Manor, Floral Terrace, ect do this.
Regardless, I think it's a great idea!

Re: New Years Eve Wedding
I had read one girls post who is having a NYE wedding, and she got a great deal because of it, I like the idea, I just dont know if I could pull it off, all of my family has to come in from FL, and I dont know how expensive travel would be for them, plus one of my BM said she wouldnt go on that day (though might look into the bus taking people home idea)

Re: New Years Eve Wedding
We went to one last year and it was great! I don't think they got much of a deal though since it was on a Sat night and they added an extra hour.
They had a great turnout, they had some last minute cancellations due to a family issue and a lot of single people came without guests but, most of the people they invited came!
If you do New Years and have OOT guests, it will be more expensive for them to travel. If it isn't attached to a weekend either, it might be tough because your OOT guests will only have off New Years Day most likely so they might have to take time off of work (and I know personally, by the end of the calendar year, my vacation days are scarce).

I worked with a lady whos neice was married new years ever. The wedding was at Atlantis Marina in Riverhead. She said everyone had a great time and stayed at a nearby hotel. I don't know about pricing. But it sounds like a good time!

It would honestly depend on who was inviting me to a NYE wedding. If it was someone who I was close with then I would make an effort to go, but I wouldn't be happy about it. Take a look at how many people you have that are out of town. It's a real PITA to book flights and hotels during that time and it can be A LOT more expensive. Also, many people have their own plans on holidays that they may not be willing to give up.

I agree. Hotels on NYE are VERY expensive, so if it wasnt local, I would probably think twice about going. Also, traffic is pretty bad that night usually and you definately have to worry about drunks on the road. The other thing is, many people like to spend their NYE with their families. If this were a very close friend, we'd go...but if not, I think i'd decline.

I love this idea, and as the other girls stated, what better way to ring in the New Year than with your closest friends and family!

Re: New Years Eve Wedding
I wouldn't mind if it was local. Actually I would love to attend a NYE local wedding.
However, as someone above mentioned, hotels are very expensive for NYE, ESPECIALLY in NYC. Flights are also pricey.
I've never been invited to a NYE wedding but I have a friend who is attending one and was really upset because they had to spend over $1000 to attend.

it does shoot the price through the roof RH charge a lot more per person probably because their staff is working on a holiday time and a half I could be wrong but it is mucho $$$$$$$
