I am fairly new to this site (although I have been reading up for a few weeks)....this is my 3rd post! Let me take the time to introduce myself, explain my situation and hopefully get some valuable feedback....
I am actually not engaged yet!! We've looked at rings and my BF about a month ago said to expect the 'question' soon!! We have been discussing marriage for awhile, and we are both ready So....he also suggested 'lets go look at halls to see whats out there, so we know what we have to save' Well....we've been to about 10 halls And we think we've found 'the one'!!! BF says the proposal is a few days away (I believe my ring is being set) We want to have our wedding May 2010...is this reasonable? We have already learned to look at Friday, Sunday and even Mondays that fall on a holiday....We are assuming most of the responsibility on our own, but I cant imagine waiting until 2011. On the other hand, I want this all done right. We have NO idea what to expect for photo/vidoe, limo and florist, but we are aware of the RH prices and pretty comfortable with our 'top choice!!!' I am in LOVE with LIW and everyone seems very helpful so I look forward to learning and sharing with you all.....

Welcome and congrats!
May 2010 is still doable, as long as you move quickly once your BF pops the question! Definitely try to get an RH and church booked within the first month, then your photo/video and DJ by next month-month and a half. You have some time for limos and florist after that. Dress should be picked out by month 2 since you will be having a fairly short engagement by today's standards, and depending on the designer can take up to 10 months to come in. And, stupid as it sounds, hair and makeup is a must within the first few months, because the good artists book a year in advance easy. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions!

Hello and Welcome!
My advice differs from a lot of what you've heard. I think you should wait to plan, and after he pops the question...........just be engaged for a while. It's such a wonderful time in your life, once you start planning you switch gears a little bit. I say start saving $$ and getting ideas..I know its hard, just try to relax and enjoy this wonderful period.

Welcome and Congrats!!
You have time for May 2010, but remember, the holiday weekends book quickly so you may want to do RH and ceremony location within the next month or so...
Which RH's did you look at?
We looked at:
Crest Hollow Fox Hollow Westbury Manor Woodbury CC Chateau Briand The Sandcastle Jericho Terrace The Coral Room Chateu La Mer And a few others I know I am forgetting!
Wow....thanks everyone for the warm hellos and congrats, I am luving the support , advice and encouragement. Thank you all!!! I have alot to take in!! I look forward to being a part of this community.

Thanks Mirabella,
I respect your opinion. My BF and I both see engagement as a temporary phase usually while you are planning a wedding, so we dont plan on being engaged very long. However, if its a year or two, I would be fine with that. We are trying to decide a timeline and would both prefer 2010 over 2011 just for life planning purposes. But....all we can do is wait and see how the tale unfolds....will keep you posted Thanks for the sound advice!

I agree. I mean not until recently have I heard of 2-3 years engagements. I got engaged in the middle of March and booked the hall and church this week. We saw about close to 10 halls and all had the dates we wanted except for one place. Next will be photograpahy and limo and I plan I getting me dress come June, July. I highly doubt it's gonna take a year to get the Maggie dress I want. Actually some people think a year-year 1/2 is a long engagment.

Pre-congrats! let us know how he does it!
And i dont think a may wedding is too soon. If you like that month, its totally dooable. just make sure the RH and Church/Ceremony place are booked, those are the most important. We got engaged teh end of February, and booked church and RH end of March for an August wedding. We wanted June but the WM didnt have any June dates available so we changed our date to August.

Re: Newbie Alert
Okay question...did anyone take the color of the carpet into consideration at their RH? My BF hates most of the places with carpeting, but one in particular gave us a REALLY good quote! So I am trying to convince him that the carpeting doesn't really matter? I am planning on doing lots of candles and uplighting...so does the carpet really make a difference???? TIA

Re: Newbie Alert
My RH had a combo of hardwood floors and carpeting but I don't even remember the carpeting and I would guess that most guests wouldn't either...that being said, if it is old...well then I guess some ppl might notice it. I think ppl spend more time thinking about the food and other things personally though. Most don't spend time looking at the carpeting lol.

Re: Newbie Alert
i wouldnt be too picky. i didnt notice carpeting at all. which place was it if you dont mind me asking?
and having been a guest at many weddings, i only remember good company, music and food. and if there is really awesome lighting i would remember that.
