Newbie bride to be

Hi everybody! I just thought I'd take the time to introduce myself because I, for one, never thought I'd ever be a bride.

My wonderful fiance and me (I STILL haven't gotten used to that word!) have been together for 12 years! Over the summer we finally talked about making things official and our original plan was to just go off and elope on some beach during the winter. But three weeks ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The good news is that I'm expected to make a full and complete recovery, but the bad news is that I have to go through 6 months of chemo and radiation. So we decided to have a wedding to celebrate in August 2009. (We picked 2009 instead of 2008 because I'm going to lose all my hair due to the chemo and I want to give myself a chance to get 'pretty' again).

Since I always planned on eloping, I'm a little overwhelmed by everything. So I figured I'd just ask my first question here.

I'd like to have a late morning/early afternoon brunch buffet for my wedding instead of the traditional sit down dinner with cocktail hour and all that.

Is that even POSSIBLE on LI??? Thanks for any help you girls can offer!

Congratulation on the engagement and welcome to the boards. I hope you're recovery goes well and fast. I'm sure everything will be okay and if you need any support we're here for you. As for the morning/afternoon ceremony i doubt you'll have trouble finding a place, i think all places offer those times. Good louck with everything

First, hi and welcome!!
Im sure that there is somewhere that would accomodate a brunch wedding, that sounds like a lot of fun. I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

Congrats again!

First off, welcome and congrats. You seem to have a great attitude in terms of handling everything you are going through and I think that makes all the difference....my mom has been dealing with fighting colon cancer for the last 2 years and is now dealing with growths in her lungs and i think her attitude has really made the difference!!!

Trumpets at the Gate (my RH) is very non-typical...I would ask. They are right on the water and sooo beautiful!!!

Congratulations on your engagement! You sound so strong and your story is very inspiring. I wish you nothing but the best. As for the brunch type wedding, I think that is a great idea! Do you have any iea how large your wedding will be? I was thinking of places like the riverview or snapper inn. Also, Lombardi's on the Sound offers a mother's day brunch so I am sure they can do a brunch wedding! I say go for it!

Congratulations and Welcome to LIW. I want to commend you on the strength you have in dealing with your situation. Keep a positive outlook and have fun planning your wedding. All the girls on the board are so helpful and you will always have a shoulder to lean on.

My co-worker's son had a brunch buffet which I heard was a hit.

Re: Newbie bride to be

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome and the ideas at places to at least start my search at! I really appreciate it!

I also want to thank you all for the good wishes for my recovery. I have to admit when I got my diagnosis, I cried in the doctor's office. All I wanted was some antibiotics to get rid of a stupid summer cold I couldn't shake before fh and me went off on vacation. Talk about a stunner!

Anyway, I'm so glad I asked my question becuase at least now I have a place to start calling and looking at instead of going into it blind!

FH and me decided on the summer brunch buffet because (1) breakfast is our favorite meal and (2) we're sooooooo guilty of stuffing ourselves silly during the cocktail hour of every wedding we have ever been to and then not even being able to look at the dinner, we thought a buffet would be the best answer.

Thanks again for the help! I look forward to getting to know all of you and exchangin ideas with you.

and I want to apologize ahead of time in case any of my posts seem snarky -- I'll blame EVERYTHING on the chemo!!!
