I'm new to this, getting married in 05, been engaged for 1 yr. Just started planning it, going alright so far, but I could definately use some advice. No one around me has ever planned a wedding, so I'm out in the cold. If aneyone has suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

get your self a really good wedding planning book or wedding planning software. learn excel! my friend did everything on a spreadsheet and she said it saved alot of time. i would also buy some wedding magazines they always have a checklist of what to do. i am in the same situation. i am the first in my immediate family to get married. the hardest part is not knowing how much everything costs.

Setting a budget and working out finances would be the next steps. Talk to your fiance (FH) and your families about how much everyone will contribute to the wedding and work out a savings plan.
Assume everything is more expensive then you think - we were in the same place you are now, trying to save for something when you don't know how much it is.
Try to get an estimated guest list - just an estimate number is good for now for when you research catering halls.
You and your FH should decide what type of wedding you want - spring, summer, evening afternoon, formal, semi-formal, etc.
Then it would be time to set the date and start looking for ceremony & reception sites!
Congrats on your engagement!! Good luck with your planning!! You found the PERFECT place for help, support, ideas and friends!!

Don't listen to advice from NON-Brides. Make this your new online home. The brides around here are better than gold.

Radiostar took the words right out of my mouth! Stick to this site and you will learn a whole lot!! I call this site my online wedding problem solvers. It is phenomenal. The gals on here are the best
I am the first in my family to have a wedding but luckily I have very recently married friends with ideas on what not to do for my wedding. Seriously, as part of a casual conversation, I asked recently married couples what would they would have done differently for their wedding and you would be amazed how much insight you can get.
I priced around a lot for all the major vendors and I am glad we did since we ended up saving some money on one thing that could have been used for other things. Also read all contracts carefully before signing.
