Newbie Venue Help.....please

Hi Ladies,

FH and I got engaged in August and have just begun to
look at venues.
We visited our first two venues yesterday. A little preface we had our heart set on one particular venue that we visited but hubby was a little underwhelmed of the rooms once we took a tour. We have been to a wedding here before which is when we both fell in love with the venue especially the outdoors. I was trying to explain to him that we are seeing the reception room as a blank slate/empty canvas with no decor.

The second venue he preferred the room as it was a more modern but the outdoor cocktail hour of the other venue was more what we were going for.

If anyone can offer any tips or advice on how I will know once I have found the perfect venue. Searching for venues reminds me of dating, liking one thing about one venue but liking another option in the other. I'm trying to compromise with FH as well as I was real impressed on all the questions he asked the BM when we toured, so i want to keep him the loop going forward

Thanks ladies

Newbie Venue Help.....please

I made a list of everything I wanted in a venue starting with the most important stuff. (One wedding at a time, homey feel, hardwood dance floor, etc) then found venues that met that and went from there. We haven't booked yet (we are very close), but I felt very at ease by the sale coordinator when we toured. Answered all our questions and then some, and I didn't feel pressured at all. I think the most important thing is just figuring out what your must haves are and what you can compromise on.

Newbie Venue Help.....please

New were able to narrow it down to two venues, then took a second look with our parents at each of them (a fresh non-objective view always helps since they didn't know which we were leaning towards), then made a pro/con list for each. The venue we chose had like two cons and the other had many many after a lot being pointed out at our second visit we didn't see at our first. Just like when you watch a movie for the second time, you see things you didn't see before (good and bad). If you don't feel it in your heart that it's THE one, then it's probably not and you should keep looking. Then if you keep comparing others to one, revisit it :). Good luck and congrats!

I never got 'The feeling' but I am absolutely thrilled I chose wherer I did. It was the first place we looked and I didn't know what to expect. For us, what we got for our money was where the decision was made. There wasn't anywhere else that could compare, and we loved the feel and reputation the place had.

I'm also a huge advocate for pro/con lists.

We visted all the venues we were interested in and coincidentally we agreed on the same two. After a second visit we were able to make a choice and our decision just felt right.
