Re: Newly Engaged!

Congrats... How did he propose?

First off.... take a deep breath and enjoy being engaged!

The first things that I did was sit down and figure out how much money we wanted to spend on the wedding. We are paying for it ourself so we had to determine how much a week we can spend, etc.

Then we came up with a tentative guest list to figure out are you talking about a 100 person wedding or a 250 person wedding. This is important for the budget and the venue.

After we had these too I looked at a magazine that had different venues to see what is out there. Figure out things like... do you want to be the only bride, on the water, outside ceremony, outside cocktail hour, etc.

We are all really helpful and I am sure you will be addicted as much as we all are.

Re: Newly Engaged!

Thanks ladies! He proposed at the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay near the little pink house by the Rose Garden. We absolutely love it there! I knew the proposal was coming because he had asked me about rings, but he totally surprised me because I was the one who suggested that we go there on Saturday since the weather was going to be so nice! I'm still on Cloud 9! :)

We've been working on a guest list and we have an idea of how many people we want to have (probably around 100-125 or so). We definitely want a fall wedding, so we're planning for next October or November. We decided to take a month to enjoy the engagement, and when we get back from vacation next month we're going to start to look for reception halls and then take the rest from there.

Here's my first question. We are not having a formal engagement party, just a BBQ at the end of the month at his house for some of our closest friends and immediate family. Since we're not having a big party, do you think we should send out engagement announcements to the rest of our friends and family?

Welcome to the addiction!! This will be your best wedding resource! We're here to help!!

Egagement announcement is totally up to you! Some people do them and some people don't. We didn't do one, I feel the people that don't know we're engaged (which is mostly everyone) will know when they get the save the date and we will have our wedding web site on there with the proposal story

We decided not to do an engagement enouncement or engagement party. We posted on Facebook that we were engaged so we figured that covers most people.

We are paying for the wedding ourself so we decided that we did not want to spend the money on an engagement party. I also was not comfortable because I felt bad having people have to get us gifts.

Congrats and welcome! LI weddings is so fun!

We just 'announced' it on facebook and made personal phone calls to family and friends. You can do formal ones if you want, but it is totally not a requirement!

Re: Newly Engaged!

Thanks for all the advice girls! I was leaning towards not sending the engagement announcements so I'm happy to hear that everyone thinks it's not necessary! I would rather save the money to put towards something else!

CONGRATS!!!!

i dont think it's 100% necessary to send out announcements. I think most people will find out from others/facebook/etc and then you can call others that you think may not find out right away. plus if you're planning on sending out save the dates that will make sure everyone knows about the wedding way in advance.

congrats again! you're gonna love it here!

Re: Newly Engaged!

Congrats and that is a cute story! I didn't do an announcement either. Instead I blabbed on the phone and posted it all over facebook. Good luck with the wedding planning and if you ever need any help we are a great support group.
