Re: Newly engaged - help
You will need to contact the bridal salon that you're interested in to find out when their next sale is. (Sometimes, it will be posted on their website.)
I got my dress at a Kleinfeld sample sale. (They're in Brooklyn.) Their phone # is (718) 765-8500. Just to warn you, to make an appointment for a sample sale there they will take your credit card information. You will be charged $50 if you're a no show and do not call to cancel. But it's worth it!
Trunk shows are another option to get a discounted dress, at usually 10-15% off. This is when a designer will bring their newest line of dresses to a salon for brides to try on and order.
Start looking in bridal magazine and on wedding websites like the knot to see what types of dresses and what designers you like. (But be sure to try on all different styles at the salons - you may fall in love with something that you would not have normally given a second look!)
Ack - sorry for the novel!

Congratulations on your !!!
IMO, you should start looking for your dress now... I went looking yesterday and today and still did not pick a dress.. I never thought it would be so hard and now I'm starting to panic a little since I'm getting married in July... You just don't know how long it will take to find 'the dress' so it's always good to get a head start..

First of all Congratulations!!!! In my opinion, it's never to early to start shoping for anything. You may need an appointment for some bridal shops but not all of them. It may be necessary to do so so that you have ample time to shop around with their help. BTW, love the pics from your engagement.

debbiedee...check your Forum Mail.
FYI, I just got my dressed yesterday and I ordered it on August 2. Try giving yourself at least 6 months.

Re: Newly engaged - help
I would have your dress ordered by December. It takes about 9 months to a year for a dress to come in. Mine came in in 8 month.
