Newly engaged - help

I just got engaged 10/10/03 at the Montauk Lighthouse (i know, i know, so romantic). I just booked the hall tonight and I have the band. How many months in advance should I look for my dress?? Do I always have to make an appointment to go look at the dresses?

congrats

you are getting married on my parents anniversary and the day before NYlisa and myself.

For dresses I would start now. Some take longer then others to be made. Definatly make an appointment

Thanks - September is a good month I think. I'm crossing my fingers for an outside cocktail hour. I just changed my picture, I don't like the one I have posted.

Congratulations!!
I'd say start looking now. I was told my dress could take up to 6 mos. Besides, it's the best part - start soon!
And yes, make an apoointment.

Good luck!

Welcome fellow Riviera bride!! Congrats on your engagement and on booking your hall and band!

It is definitely not too early to look for dresses! My wedding is 9/23/04 and I bought my dress in July.

Have fun shopping!

congrats!!!! and welcome...

I would start looking for a dress now. I feel you can never start to early to look.
Maybe I should take my own advice and start looking...

Who is your photographer? I'm thinking about skipping the video and have my fiance's little brother do it. (he's 20). I heard pictures are like $3000 not including video??!!

I am using PATKEN... I found out about them from this site. I think I am going to do my video through them as well. At first I was not going to do video but then I thought about it and it's something you can hold on to forever...

I am using Patken

I just bumped the official Patken thread. Check it out, it has lots of feedback and some pics on there

Re: Newly engaged - help

Is Patken reasonable or crazy expensive? I'm trying to budget everything and I figured $2,500 for photographer. I heard that you should buy the cheapest package b/c you can upgrade later.

I love the Riviera,,,,,,,,,,it's so pretty. I can't believe I'm getting married a week before you.

Patken will work with you on everything

That is what FI and I did, we got a low package and will upgrade later on.

Is it just me - why can't I change my Chat picture? Am I a spaz???

What's everyone's wedding song???

I love the Riviera too! I think it is so romantic and charming! It was the first hall that we saw out of about 10, and was the clear winner for us. We're getting married outside at the gazebo so I'm really hoping for good weather!! Are you getting married there too? (You're a week before me - how cool! September is a wonderful month!)

My original photographer budget was $2,500 - until I did some research and found out that the photographers that blew me away were more like $4,000.... I think I may need another job!

ETA: Delete your old chat picture, then attach the new one. We're being rather untraditional and are having 2 songs - 'A Kiss to Build a Dream On' and 'Sing, Sing, Sing' (we're having a swing themed wedding, with swing music and swing dancing).

The Riviera is the only place I looked at. I have been to a wedding there a couple of years ago and always said that this was the place I want to get married. I'm getting married in a church, hopefully, I still have to book that.

Congrats on your engagement!!!
We got engaged at the Montauk lighthouse too! It was really romantic!

Anyway, on the dress, I would start to look and most places you should make an appt especially if its the weekend because if you dont, you may have to wait along time for a salesperson and a fitting room to be free! But honestly thats the best part so why not start early! I ordered my dress the end of September and it wont be in until March!!!

Photographers, i would budget 3000 just to be on the safe side! We budgeted 3500 and came in under that!! And if you do decide to go with a smaller package to upgrade later, ask the photographer for a price list because some places charge like $30 for each 8x10 you want to order. We booked a moderate package becuase we didnt want to have to pay an extra $1000 afterwards!

Marco Photography in Holbrook, Duet in Huntington and VIP in port Jefferson are all very reasonable price wise!

hey, do you know where you are going on your honeymoon yet? September is hurricane season. We are thinking Hawaii.

OH you two so cute! I dont have any pics with the ring on. Fi waited until Sunset so by the time I realized what had happened there was no way we could take pictures! But I do have alot of pics from earlier that day!!!

ETA, your ring is beautiful!!
And Aruba is out of the hurricane belt if you want to do the Carribbean!

Re: Newly engaged - help

Oh - also, when booking your appointments to try on dresses, the earlier the better since 1) the staff is at their happiest 2) your appointment won't be badly delayed. I also highly recommend sample sales if you're looking to get a couture type dress at a fraction of the price! (Dress shopping is so much fun!)

ETA: Awww! I love your engagement pictures! You make a great couple! (And your ring is beautiful!)

We haven't figured out our honeymoon yet. A lot of brides recommend Bermuda for Sept. since it is not hurricane prone - we're going to look into it.
