I've been on this website and reading many many posts since I got engaged. We only got engaged a little over a week ago, but I've been in search of the perfect place to have the ceremony and reception!
Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated!
I would love to avoid the traditional catering hall type wedding. I've been to many beautiful weddings at different venues like this, but I want mine to be a bit different and a bit more casual.
Places I've gone so far...
Old Field Club - I had my heart set on this venue. I thought it would be perfect...the outside space and the room looked perfect, but I really didn't love it. There were a few things that didn't thrill me, so I left very disappointed. I was convinced there was nowhere for me to get married that I'd love.
Then we went to see the Vanderbilt at Dowling. My fiance and his parents loved it. My mom and I liked it, but I'm not totally sold. There are a few things I don't love and I don't really know if it's the atmosphere I'm going for.
Thatched Cottage - Really very pretty, but more the catering hall type feel that I want to avoid. It just wasn't for me.
I really need help! We obviously have a budget, but we're willing to do a Friday night. I have to do July or August because it makes my life much easier as a teacher. We're also willing to do '10 or '11.
I really want to find the perfect place....on the water would be great, but as long as it's a pretty locations, we're happy. Neither of us is very religious, so we will hopefully be getting married on-site or at some pretty outside location nearby (We hope for no rain...as do the rest : ) )
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
We appreciate any feedback at all! Nicole

I am getting married at the Queens County Farm Museum but that is probably way too casual. You can try The Pavilion at sunken meadow I have never been there but it's worth a shot.
Happy Planning.

Re: Newly Engaged - Need Help Finding a Venue!
the owners of Villa Lombardi's just bought Louis the XVI in Patchogue. It is actually now Lomabrdi's on the Bay.. I would definietly check that out because is seesms that while the Villa may be opposite of what you want the new one is elegant in a plainer way but the room is all glass & you see that water through out it..I haven't been there yet, but from a few pics I've seen it looks absolutely beautiful. I think you may like it from what you are describing :) good luck!!

Check out the Hempstead House @ Sands Point if you're looking for something unique.
I absolutely LOVED the Hempstead House; however, it would never have accomodated our guest list (over 300) + FH wasn't crazy about it.
I think Majestic Gardens is beautiful too. They're one wedding at a time.

We're getting married at the Hamlet at Willow Creek in Mt. Sinai. It can be fancy or casual and there is a large lake in the back. Pretty.

If you want something really different there is also Atlantis which is an Aquarium where you can get married. I saw some pics online (i found them through this site) and it looked beautiful. I never went there in person because my count was too small to guarantee a room. The buy I spoke to was Bob the number is 631-208-9200 x286. He was super nice and really tried his hardest to help me out. I believe someone on this site recently got married there.

We are also getting married at Hamlet Willow Creek. It may be something like what you are looking for because i do not think it has a typical catering hall feel. It is only open about 4 years so everything is very new and clean looking, nothing screams tacky wedding. I also looked at Old field club and Vanderbilt mansion, so I think I had a similar vision as you when I went looking for halls. www.hamletwillowcreek.com good luck!

What about the Pavillion at Sunken Meadow or Gurneys? Both are more laid back...
ETA The Bayview House at Captain Bills is awesome and their food is absolutely DELISH!!!!!!

I recently was married at Westbury Manor and it was absolutely wonderful. Definitely doesn't have that catering hall feel.

Hi, we went to about 12 places before we finally settled on Chateau Briand. If you're looking for a different look, this is the place, but if you are set on 1 wedding at a time, then this isn't it. FM if you want details on the other places we visited and their pricing. Good Luck.
