My fiance and i just got engaged last sunday aug 28th and since then everyones been making me crazy engagement party now says half the family the other half says you need to wait until after the holidays then some are saying you cant have it until you book the hall and others are disagreeing its a mess needless to say i come from a big italian opinionated family lol.... i do want the engagement party i just dont know when i should do it any thoughts.... and any thoughts on how to start looking at reception venues?? do i book the church first or the venue? ahhhhhh lol only a week into this and im overwhelmed how am i gonna do this lol.... we set a date at least its November 2, 2013
Congrats and welcome!! I agree enjoy being engaged before you make any decisions. You will learn quickly you need to do what is best for you and your FH. For us we got engaged in Nov, talked to the church in end of Jan and looked for halls in Feb/March. We waited till July to have an engagement party since we both worked in schools. Everyone here is so great on helping each other if you have any question or just to chat.

I just started looking at local places & with every place I saw I decided, I want this & I don't want that. I continued to look at places until I found exactly what I wanted. If you have a budget you might want to do your research with prices per person first. That might narrow down some places too! My FH comes from a big traditional italian family too. We got engaged in May 2010 & our eparty was Oct 2010. We had our hall already picked out so we gave out our save the dates at our eparty.

Everyone is going to have an opinion about something but ultimately do what is right for you and FH and what makes u both happy. You cant please everyone.
As far as your e- party.. it might be best to wait until after the holidays but if u want 1 before go for it.
You have plenty of time to plan your wedding so just take everything 1 step at a time. You dont want to get yourself stressed or overwhelmed, esp so quickly. Everyone here on the boards are very helpful so any questions just ask away.

Thank you so much!!! we are definately enjoying the engagement but it just felt like once we got engaged we got bombarded with planning from everyone.... we decided to have the engagement party sooner rather than later so that once thats out of the way we can enjoy planning and focus soley on the wedding!!!Congratulations to you as well! i see that you have booked the venetian, thats awesome ... i looked at their website along with others havent been there yet but for some reason thats the one i keep going back to, it just looks amazing on the website and im sure it is in person as well. thank you for the helpful tips!

Congrats to you as well and thank you!!! so you know EXACTLY where im coming from lol as i just posted in another reply we decided to have the engagement party in november and were hoping maybe we would have our hall booked by then so that we too would be able to give the save the date cards with the favors at the party.... i didnt realize how overwhelming this all would be so soon lol...... this website seems to be the way to go! thank you again!!

I am newly engaged as well & FH's family is also bothering about an engagement party.. We're getting married in 2 years! I think we have plenty of time for that! LOL I told them we might just hold off on one until next year and enjoy being engaged for now.
I am also going to start looking at halls soon & am loving all the great advice on here!

I felt the same way you did...we got engaged the beginning of august and everyone started asking about our engagement party and the wedding. We set our date and than booked our engagement party within two weeks of getting engaged (for November), everyone calmed down about asking a million questions, we are so happy and now my FH and I are just taking our time finding the place, church and DJ, thank goodness his family friend is Tony Ferrari Photography and he has a family friend that is also a florist so we don't have to look into those things...takes a lot off of our minds. But enjoy everyday of just looking at your ring and loving every minute of being engaged. I am realized that whatever my FH and I are choosing everyone ends up supporting either way
