If so what do you make with it? I have one and not sure if I will ever even use it.

Re: Newlyweds - Do you have a crockpot?
I got one as a gift years ago and used it once - to make a roast with potatoes and veggies. I didn't like how it tasted at all.
I know some people who have one and love it. I heard it's good for making soups and chili.

Re: Newlyweds - Do you have a crockpot?
I am not a newlywed, but have been living with my sweetie. I purchased my own crock pot and I love it. I use it more in the winter. I make soups, stews, chili, and rice pudding in it. They have a cookbook for the crock pot, I thinks its called Fix it and Forget it.

Re: Newlyweds - Do you have a crockpot?
I want to register for one but not sure if it would be a waste or not
Is that like a slow cooker?

My staples to make are stew and chili. There are a ton of things you can make in it. Depending on the size of yours, you can roast a whole chicken in it - it comes out great.

Re: Newlyweds - Do you have a crockpot?
we got one.. haven't used it yet... but i have a friend who lives by herself who swears by hers! she makes stews and chilli and all kinds of stuff, eats what she wants and then freezes the rest for another meal.... i'm a teacher so i have off for the summer, but when i go back to work i definitely plan on using it so that dinner is already cooked when we get home
there is a cookbook i think its called 'fix it and forget it' or something like that that has some crockpot recipes... maybe check that out

Thanks so much ladies. Now here is my other problem. I don't think I would feel comfortable having it plugged in and on all day when no one is home I am a nut.

yes! And, it sat in the box from March 2004 (my bridal shower) until two weeks ago!!!
Now that I've used it, we're hooked!

start slow! I used it on a Saturday for the first time. I put everything in at 7 am and it was ready by 6 pm.
Then, I left it in over night and it was fine.
I still don't think I'll leave it in while we're out. Our puppy lives in the kitchen and I'd just be too nervous with her near it

I was afraid to use it for the same reason. the one and only time I used it was on Christmas day, I was home all day.

Re: Newlyweds - Do you have a crockpot?
I have one for ages. I was really concerned about leaving it on too and coming home to singed kitty cats Now I leave it on low and I am out of the house for 12 hours! I make chili, pot roast, coq au vin and stew. You can also buy pre-made recipes in the frozen section of the supermarket that take about 4 hours to cook.
