If so what do you make with it? I have one and not sure if I will ever even use it.

Re: Newlyweds - Do you have a crockpot?
Nope. I don't like hot liquids, so I don't eat stuff like soup, stew or chili which would require the use of a crock pot. But see how much education we can get on these boards?

I am not a newlywed, but have been living with my sweetie. I purchased my own crock pot and I love it. I use it more in the winter. I make soups, stews, chili, and rice pudding in it. They have a cookbook for the crock pot, I thinks its called Fix it and Forget it.
I'm not a newlywed yet either, but my roommate has one and uses the cookbook. She loves the crockpot but the cookbook's been hit or miss - some things are awesome, some are pretty gross. She made these amazing bbq chicken wings in it this weekend - so yummy and the meat was just falling off the bone! I'm definitely registering for one of these. It's good for cheesy dips at parties too - will keep the dip hot and melted.

if your not comfy leaving the house, start on a saturday or day off. Also, if you have a 'safety' outlet in your kitchen (the kind with the test/reset buttons on the plate) you can plug it into that, it should automatically trip with any sort of problem power wise. (though a main breaker should do the same thing, this is a more local shutoff on the outlet).
You can put pretty much anything in it. My favorites are roasts and chickens... if you don't like 'soupy' food, you can crumple a couple pieces of foil to put in the bottom, add an inch or 2 of water, and put your whole chicken on top of the foil, seasoned. It'll be falling off the bone delicious in 6-8 hours (low), and not soupy in the least.
