NEWLYWEDS-please help
I have a question. There is a huge controversy about having a receiving line at my wedding. I am trying to get as much info as possible as to the amount of time this takes.Could you please let me know
A - did you have a receiving line?
B- how many guests were there?
C- how long did it take?
We only have 1 hour between the end of church and the beginning of the reception. I want to use this time for pictures, but family members feel it is really rude not to have one. Please advise.

Re: NEWLYWEDS-please help
We did not have one. To be honest I have not been to a wedding in NYC that had one. So, I did not think twice about not doing it.

Re: NEWLYWEDS-please help
It would have been really hard for us not to have one as one just sort of forms at the back of the church. We could have slipped out but we wanted to take more photos.I dont remember how long it took but we got thru it fairly quickly as we had limited time.
My suggestion would be to keep the line just to the bride and groom. THe more people you add to the greeting line, the longer it takes.
We also got some of our favorite photos outside of the church asking everyone to join us for a group photo. So that was a worth the time for us.

Re: NEWLYWEDS-please help
We did not have one. We spent the time taking pictures so that we could greet our guests at the cocktail hour.

Re: NEWLYWEDS-please help
We did have one, I am not sure exactly how many people came to the church but I would guess around 85-100 and it took us about 20 mintues!JMO but you really dont have time if you only have 1 hour between the ceremony and the reception. YOu may want to explain to your parents that if you cut out the receiving line at the church it will give you more time to mingle at the CH b/c with only an hour, if you are taking the majority of your pics at that time, you will probably miss a lot of the CH if you lose an additional 20 minutes for the receiving line!
Remember there is NO way to make EVERYONE happy, worry about yourself and your FH! Its your day do it they way you want to remember it!
It all goes by toooooooo quickly!!!!

Re: NEWLYWEDS-please help
We did not have one at the reception but we did have one at church. We had about 60 people at church and it took about 20-25 minutes and that included picture taking outside the church too.

We did not have one. We were married at our reception site and our guests were immediately led into the cocktail hour. We took pictures immediately following the ceremony and greeted our guests at the cocktail hour. We were also announced at the beginning of the reception and did the table rounds.

Re: NEWLYWEDS-please help
We had a receiving line and only 1 hour also. Remember not everyone goes to the church and also people skip the receiving line. It took us about 20 minutes after the church. Not bad!Welcome New Vendors
