Nicest restaurant in Port Jeff?

Hi there,

My FH's boss is coming to our wedding and asked for a restaurant recommendation in Port Jeff for the night before the wedding. They are BIGGGGGGG wine drinkers. Money isn't an issue.

Can you recommend a good place?

Which is better - Pasta Pasta or Ruvos? or maybe there's something even better?

Thanks!

Hey Bon - I was raised in Port Jeff (FH too).

Btwn Pasta Pasta and Ruvo is tough. They are both very nice. Ruvo may have a better alcohol selection since you mentioned that they are big wine drinkers. Personally, I'd pick Ruvo.

There is also Pace's steakhouse which is on par with both and very nice as well.

Those 3 are definitely the nicest places in downtown Port Jeff. If they were willing to roam a little outside of Port Jeff, I could name other places.

Hey J-diggity. I knew you'd come through. I feel like I grew up there Spent too much time at the Starbucks down there.

I figured Pace's was kind of 'eh' compared to Pasta Pasta and Ruvos....is that not true?

I think they're staying at Danfords...so being downtown would be best. But I'll take close recommendations! Setauket? Stony Brook?

Pasta Pasta is great....make sure they have a reservation though!

Elk Street Grille is amazing as well! Saturday nights they have a piano too. Dinner for 2 can run you at LEAST $120 though if you do 3 courses and drinks. The food is soooo good though!

Lombard's on the Sound is great too. It's about 5 minutes outside of Port Jeff Village though but it has beautiful water views.

How does Elk Street compare to Pasta Pasta and Ruvo?

What about the restaurant at Danford's? I personally think that it's classier and the food is better than Pasta Pasta....I've never been to Ruvo or Pace's.

It literally JUST re-opened two days ago. So I'm timid about recommending it.

Danfords is the nicest place I've been to in Port Jefferson. I just moved away from there this past week. Pasta Pasta is ok, but I wasn't huge on their food. You can also try the Country House on 25A. They are always great. Or there's always the Three Village Inn.

I live in Port Jeff and love it ! Ruvo used to be the Printer's Devil and where I met FH . Pasta Pasta is always nice but I am not fond of it. Ruvo is a bit nicer in my opinion with a nice selection of wines. Pace's is good but a standard steak house. Danford's restaurant is always nice and they can request a table overlooking the water.

I would totally second Country House and Three Village Inn if they want to venture outside of PJ! These are both VERY nice places with excellent food. They're both about 15 minutes outside of PJ - right up the road on 25A in Stony Brook/Setauket.

On the other hand, though, I would not recommend Danford's for the food at all. The ambiance and being on the water is nice, but I think most of the local PJ people would agree that they'd skip Danford's.

As far as Pace's goes - it is an upscale steakhouse. I'd prefer Ruvo any night of the week (we are begging our FILs to do our rehearsal there, so you know we love it!) because I'm not a big steak and potatoes person. I'd rather go have some interesting pasta dish and big huge glass of riesling at Ruvo!

Bonnie,

If they are willing to go to St. James - which isn't far at all - I would send them to eatMosaic. Very high end dining, very eclectic wonderfully prepared food - and they really know their wine...

I love Pasta Pasta! Pace's Steakhouse is also good.

I would avoid Elk Street Grill.

THis is sort of an old thread, but I grew up in Port Jeff (still live there actually) and All the suggestions are great, but my favorite is IL Miridoro. It's NEVER crowded, the food is great and it overlooks the water. It's not on main street, so it's often overlooked. It's on W. Broadway as you head up the hill to Setauket it's on the right, in the same parking lot as the Deli.

If they are big wine drinkers, than I would also recommend Elk Street Grille! It's a very nice, classy environment typically with jazz music playing. Most people enjoy it!
