Night time wedding

Hey all! So I just booked my venue today
I'm scheduled for a 8:15pm ceremony, with cocktail hour starting at 9pm. It's in August and I'm wondering what do you think about it being so late? I figure there will still be some light out since it's summer, but now I'm worried that it'll be too dark during my ceremony.

Re: Night time wedding

If you look at the sundown time for the date it is 8:15pm so if you want to have an outside ceremony and have light you will need to move it earlier.

Yeah I think that is pretty late- that means your reception is from 10-2am too... I would do Ceremony at 630, cocktail hour at 730, and reception from 830-1230 but that's just me

Night time wedding

If you want an outdoor ceremony it probably is too late to realy enjoy it. But if its indoor at night it can look really romantic with a lot of candles and mood lighting.

Night time wedding

I definitely did want it earlier. The originally time for the date we wanted would have been 7:45pm which meant the sun would go down during the ceremony, but now that time is not available. The only other time crest hollow has available is 6:15pm which would mean cocktail hour is at 7pm. Our BM pointed out that if we do that, people wouldn't get the full effect of their outdoor and pool lighting. So that's why we went with later.
Mara, do you know if the outdoor chapel has any lighting?

Also I figured the ceremony would look like this during that time.

Re: Night time wedding

I would make it earlier, IMO. It's a Friday night so if I had gotten up to go to work at 6:30 in the morning, I'd have a hard time making it til 2am. If you can move it earlier, I would. But it's not the end of the world either. Most people will not have to work on Saturday and can sleep in.

Night time wedding

We're doing the 6:15 start time for CHCC. I thought any later would be too late for our guests. I think they'll still be able to enjoy and be impressed by the poolside cocktail hour, even if the lighting isn't at its peak. If it helps though, I seem to remember the ceremony site having some kind of spotlights, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks for all the response guys! I'm kind of freaking out now just thinking about it. I'm also thinking about photos since we don't want to do a reveal and I don't want to take photos in the dark!

Night time wedding

Okay so after talking to the FH, he asked me too look up some nighttime wedding pictures and they are not so bad. So maybe we'll stay with it. I would love for it to be slightly earlier like a 7 or so start time so it wouldn't end at 2am, or 3am if we add a Viennese table. But we'll see.

I don't think they have lighting back there. The picture you posted does not look like it is after sundown which is when your ceremony would be if you have it at 815

Night time wedding

I'm having a 7:30pm outdoor ceremony in September. It will be dark, but we are using a lot of candles and uplighting. They also have lighting in my area. I don't mind it being dark, I think it will have a romantic feel with all the candles. However, we are doing a reveal so I will have daytime pics and we are not having a venetian hour so my wedding will be done by 1am. I'm a late night person and I think a 3am end time is really late. Do you have a lot of older people? They usually leave a little earlier.

Re: Night time wedding

I would go with earlier, it's nicer for pictures anyway. My wedding ended at 1:30 and really the younger people and most family stayed so it was ok but I was exhausted and I wouldn't have wanted it to end at 2. The light for my ceremony at 8 was perfect, I know it's different in the summer, but your photographer can pull you outside for a few night shots as well which is what we did.

Night time wedding

If you do not plan on doing a reveal I would DEF make the start time earlier. All of your wedding pics at night time? I do not thinks that is a good idea.

Night time wedding

Are you having your cocktail hour outside? I purposefully wanted it to be dark for this to get the full effect of the LED lights so I have a 745pm ceremony, an 815-915 cocktail hour and reception until 115. Sunsets at 815 for me too so it will still be light for the ceremony. Is that an option for you?

Re: Night time wedding

For the date they originally offered us, we would have booked the 745pm ceremony time. But for that day they only had either the 630 and 815 times available. I don't hate the idea as much anymore. I'm always looking outside now to see how it is around that time and it doesn't seem so bad. We're doing everything outside except the reception. So the ceremony and cocktail hour will be outside. I've seen some pictures at night by the pool and they came out beautiful. I'm going to speak to our photographer more about it to make sure, but it doesn't seem so bad anymore. My family are very late people so hanging out and partying until 2am or 3am(if we do a viennesee table) won't be a problem for them. And also, it allows people to go to work and come after.
