Trying to help a friend out! Bride and groom have decided to not have any alcohol served and will have a Jazz band instead of a DJ. She is a little worried that people will be bored and not enjoy the reception. I told her that if people start to complain and critisize then they are there for the wrong reasons. So she is trying to find some ideas on what to do to entertain guests during the reception? Any ideas/suggestions? TIA!

They do not drink nor dance for religious beliefs. So they opted to go with a Jazz band so taht there will music in the backgroud but nothing that can offensive. So people can dance if they'd like but it would be nice slow music. Personally I think this a great idea, it lets people feel the love and warmth of the day!

then I dont see any problems with that. can she do not a sit down reception? sounds to me that this type of event would work better as a 'cocktail' party she also can have signature drinks only virgin ones

well obviously money is a factor,
but there are so many add ones that ppl can have in their packages and stuff...
so maybe she can compensate w/something? like maybe they can have a signature drink that is a Mocktail or something....no alcohol, that way people can feel social and be served a drink but not be drinking alcohol...some ppl drink jus cuz of the habit u kno?
or add something special to cocktail hour,
or have a VH that will give guests something to look forward to at the end of the night

i dont think it should be a problem. ppl talk and chat. maybe have the cocktail hour run longer so ppl arent sitting still for 4 hours.
or what if they hired professionals to dance. that way if no one else was dancing, this might start teh crowd
they can still do an anniversary dance and stuff so ppl will get up on the dance floor

Can they hire other entertainers? Dancers, signers, or something along those lines? That would be fun.

I am not so sure about the dancers/entertainers but the video/photo montage is a good idea. I'll let her know. I was also thinking of suggesting playing Q&A games and offer prizes, like the centerpieces or gift cards.

I'd def recommend different dancers. Like Irish (obv lol), russian, greek, etc. (or whatever nationality they are) or even tap dancers or ballet. a caricature-ist... (I want one) a singer a fortune teller photobooth

ITA. This would work great as a cocktail party reception. The sit down dinner myight not work because pepole may feel they need to sit at their tables. In a cocktail party atmosphere people will be mingling a lot more.
If she needs a photog I ran into one while I was searching that only does weddings where there is not alcohol or dancing.

Also, if she´s looking to do a singer as entertainment I have info for someone. She is just starting out but already has a cd out. She also does covers of other songs. Let me know if you need it.

We wont be having as much dancing either until later in the night because of the same reasons. I was thinking of doing some games and just fun stuff to get the crowd going. Usually the DJ/MC knows a lot of different things to do in these situations
