Since i was home today, i was watching the view and this guy was on there with his new diet and workout plan that he put whoopi on and he is a personal trainer. Older man too and in amazing shape and he was saying how cardio is not good and to do strength training. He was saying how its bad for your knees, it ages you and with cardio everything goes down, as in your body so what you dont want to happen. And other facts too. I tried to get a recap of todays show to get the info, but its not up yet so ill try to update with that when they put it up.
Now i mostly do strength training, for one i have a very bad knee with torn ligaments so i have to be very careful with that. I do pilates and kickboxing so there is some cardio but i do alot with weights and just strength training workouts with abs. Its good to mix both because from what i know, when you do cardio you are only burning calories and fat while you are doing the workout. With strength training you continue to burn throughout the day even when youre not working out because muscle burns fat as you develop more muscle you burn more fat. Just was surprised about what he was saying not to even do cardio, i always thought it was to do a combination of both.
Ill even look online now to try and find his book
****UPDATED*****
here are links with some info on it. I dont agree with the 1 hour a week of working out, dont know how much that would actually do for you, no matter how intense that one hour is. ALTHOUGh on his own site it doesnt say anything about 1 hour a week only on some blog. AGAIN I AM NOT PROMOTING IT!!!! just thought it was interesting and was surprised myself and passing along what i heard haha
interesting i have messed up my knee also and I can not do much cardio and I do alot of weight training but i am not losing inches in my hips

in some way i think so. I dont run though so the guy did mostly talking about running not really things like lets say kick boxing class bc that in itself is a combo of both. But he was talking alot about all those people he sees out running on the streets especially, bc that hurts your knees more. Also talked about treadmills. I do understand what he is saying bc i know a few people who ONLY run and dont do anything else and even when they lost the weight they are not toned. Oh and he talked about posture too, that your posture suffers from running, who knows

I agree with this 100%... My FH does too... He used to be a body builder and is in great shape & knows a lot about working out. He yells at me when I run. It is horrible for your knees and there are other ways to get the cardio you need for your heart. I love classes and def. mix up workouts between cardio & weights...

Re: no cardio diet
Denise... I hate cardio haha I do it most of the time at the gym for like 15-20 minutes but i mostly do strength training.
But I have a question because I remember you commenting about it before: What do you do for your arms? I hate my arms they are (well I feel they are) sooo big. I just really want to tone them and I am doing biceps, triceps back shoulders etc but I feel they are staying the same?! lol
oh and I have a really bad hip since one of my legs is a little bit higher than the other and from dancing i have such bad knees...so what kinda hip exercises do you do??
thanks!

yeah most do say that, i mean to ONLY run isn't great. You'll lose weight but for example look at the bodies of runners, most of very thin and now i realize that yes they do have bad posture and some can even be skinny with loose skin but not really in great shape. Yeah when i get cardio its through other type of workouts

ugh arms are my trouble area too, i hate it. I do alot of weights for arms. The overhead lifts, bicep curls, table top i think its called, butterfly and all that. Also arm dips on the back of a chair and push ups on a pilates ball. Try tammy lynn webb on exercise on demand her arm workouts are great.
I have this pilates dvd that is total body sculpting. They break it into 4 parts, its abs, arms, thighs and hips. I did read in a magazine the best thing to do is the side bends though. They say if you do about 100 of them a day you should lose an inch a week or more i forgot exactly

Re: no cardio diet
I have 1 bad knee and I really have to limit the amount anything that has impact on it. But, the thing with running it is the fastest way to loose weight. It gives me a amazing high when I run but, it really is too much for me and can be painful so I have to stick with the bike and eliptical. I think its just important to change up your workouts so your muscles don't get used to one thing.

yeah he didnt say you wont lose weight but he was talking about what happens to your body. Like not getting toned and everything going downwards. And also the wear and tear you do. Like i said, i couldnt do alot of cardio for my own reasons so i do mostly strength, for me it works actually faster than when i used to do cardio a while ago. I lost 35 pounds in just a few short months

yeah thats why i incorporate kick boxing, pilates, yoga and other type of cardio type workouts. See i personally like to get toned, like when i lose weight i want to have those lines on my stomach, the ones on each side, and have shaped arms and with running you get skinny but thats about it, its not the body type i personally am looking to achieve, i know others are though.

ditto - I'd be happy at my weight now if I was just toned... I am still doing 40 mins of cardio a day, but mostly strength training (lots of reps, low weight)

yeah, see i am not somebody who is looking to get thin. For me i dont like that look. I prefer to have a flat stomach but still be curvy and with toned arms. I know some people prefer the thin look and nothing wrong with it but not what i like for myself.

Re: no cardio diet
The only way for me to get in the best shape and stay in the best shape is by running!
I also weight lift 3 times a week and spin a few times a month but when I add running into the mix I get amazing results!!! Tones my entire body! Arms too! I don't know long term effects yet but right now it works for me.
Ps I think only ultra marathon runners get that weird lanky body.

i didnt run but worked out like crazy. I did cardio in other forms. I wish i was able to do it now like i did when i lost that weight but i was working out about 2 hours a day 5-6 days a week. I did pilates almost everyday and did the 1 hour workout for total body sculpting and its not an easy workout. Plus kickboxing i loved, regular boxing, yoga which watching it looks easy but holy sh*t it gives you a workout. The thing is if you run lets say 45 mins to an hour i think most ppl will be surprised how many calories they burned. I have done it in the past and i would be pissed to see thats all i burned running for that long, i mean that wouldnt even be a whole meal lol. With strength you continue to burn even after you stop working out bc youre develop muscle and once you develop muscle it burns fat on its own even without you working out. I didnt do strength as in just doing weights like standing there and thats it. By strength i also mean crunches, push ups and stuff like that. When i was in that shape, i remember doing 400 crunches just coming home after a late dinner bc i felt guilty lol, now doing 400 crunches for me would be hard.
