no cardio diet ****UPDATED WITH LINKS*****

Original post by Espo22

Since i was home today, i was watching the view and this guy was on there with his new diet and workout plan that he put whoopi on and he is a personal trainer. Older man too and in amazing shape and he was saying how cardio is not good and to do strength training. He was saying how its bad for your knees, it ages you and with cardio everything goes down, as in your body so what you dont want to happen. And other facts too. I tried to get a recap of todays show to get the info, but its not up yet so ill try to update with that when they put it up.

Now i mostly do strength training, for one i have a very bad knee with torn ligaments so i have to be very careful with that. I do pilates and kickboxing so there is some cardio but i do alot with weights and just strength training workouts with abs. Its good to mix both because from what i know, when you do cardio you are only burning calories and fat while you are doing the workout. With strength training you continue to burn throughout the day even when youre not working out because muscle burns fat as you develop more muscle you burn more fat. Just was surprised about what he was saying not to even do cardio, i always thought it was to do a combination of both.

Ill even look online now to try and find his book

****UPDATED*****

here are links with some info on it. I dont agree with the 1 hour a week of working out, dont know how much that would actually do for you, no matter how intense that one hour is. ALTHOUGh on his own site it doesnt say anything about 1 hour a week only on some blog. AGAIN I AM NOT PROMOTING IT!!!! just thought it was interesting and was surprised myself and passing along what i heard haha

The only way for me to get in the best shape and stay in the best shape is by running!

I also weight lift 3 times a week and spin a few times a month but when I add running into the mix I get amazing results!!! Tones my entire body! Arms too! I don't know long term effects yet but right now it works for me.

Ps I think only ultra marathon runners get that weird lanky body.

see you incorporate other things too so thats good. I am thinking of a particular person i know who only runs, and nothing else at all. She lost weight but did get thin and cant say wow has a great body you know.

Again, i was just saying what this guy said on TV...i really dont know the results of just running. Just repeating what someone else said haha

Re: no cardio diet

At work we have Certified Athletic Trainers, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists who are also Physical Therapists. We work with elderly patients right up through semi-pro and pro athletes. They always stress the importance of a balanced workout! They focus not only on the training aspect but the rehabilitation of injuries in the process of getting someone to their goals. We do a lot of interval or combo training, where cardio is needed to bring the heartrate up during aerobic activity and then go right into lifting and strength training which hits the anaerobic aspects of the workout.

Even with our runners, cardio is not something that they do on an every day basis. Some days they will do cardio for 15-20 minutes and then lift. Other days just a quick cardio warm up and focus more on strengthing and core exercises. To do it all the time at intense levels will tear them down too much, or cause too much wear and tear on their joints, ect.

IMO cardio is good BUT in the right amount and you will def. see more results if you weight train along with it.

yeah i always threw in cardio in some form, except running. If i did just weights im sure i wouldve had different results. I think some people focus just on cardio and them others focus just on weights, its better when you combine the two and change up the workouts alot.
