we had an adult reception. my mother called the cousins that had children under 18 that children would not be invited to the wedding so it would be understood in advance of them receiving an invitation.

Re: No Children..
is it mostly OOTers who bring kids? i ask out of curiosity and bc i'm a little nervous that i'll end up having surprise guests without anticipating this as a problem.
it just seems so bizarre to assume that you can bring your 2 year old to a formal event. when we planned our e-party (since we weren't paying by the head) we offered select guests the option of bringing the children, and ALL of them were thrilled to have an excuse to get away for the night. they had no interest in chasing after kids all evening.

Have it say 'Mr.&Mrs.' not family that is what I have seen. I am having kids so I am send it as 'The Smith Family'.
We had some familes that were invited with their children and some that wern't. Like we didn't invite the young children of FH's 2nd cousins for example, but we invited my first cousins who are children. So on the ones that included the kids we wrote &family. The other ones we just addressed it to who we invited.
We also invited any OOT people with their kids- but I think they are all family...

If you want no children there...MAKE IT CLEAR!!! Def put adult reception on the invite...we put those very clear words on our invites and STILL got calls about kids...and they were ofcourse from the ppl who don't watch their kids...it's your day and an elegant affair...make sure it goes your way...this is one of the few things that ended up stressing me out even after I was clear about it on the invite...imagine those words weren't there? I might be in the nut house right now ..Good luck!!!

Re: No Children..
I am having adults only as well and it is written on my invites. The way i see it is that the only people that will be offended by this is the people that were planning on bringing their kids without telling me!!!

Re: No Children..
I am having a huge argument with my fmil about the kids issue...She thinks that because my familys' kids are going to be there (there are only 3 of them and they are all in the wedding) then her familys kids should be there...However I am going to spread by word of mouth, but I think you ladies had a good idea by writing Adult Reception Only at...Thanks girls!!!!

ADULT RECEPTION ON THE INVITE!! i though just addressing to 'Mr & Mrs. So&So' instead of '..and Family' would be enough, but u have NO idea how many responses i got back with kids tagged on....there were a lot of phone calls to be made

Re: No Children..
Even with Adult Reception on the invite you will still get people who will ask if their kids can come...usually they will ask someone else who is invited 'does that mean ALL kids arent invited' My aunt asked my granmother if that meant her daughter wasnt invited and guess what...even after my grandmother telling her NO KIDS your child is not invited they brought her anyway....couldnt do anything at that point.

Re: No Children..
As a parent of 2 kids, I am not writing Adult Reception on my invites. I have been invited to many weddings over the years and never thought to bring my kids. They don't belong there. As a parent, you should know that. I don't think writing Adult Reception will change a rude person that assumes Mr and Mrs means that they can bring their children. Also, most people know that they should cover their plate charge, at min, and that would add to their expenses. That in itself, is usually a deterant for people bringing their kids. If someone responds with more people then I would expect from them, then I will call them and let them know room is limited and we will not be able to accomodate that many people. We are allowing the nieces and nephews only. There will be no one under 18 invited otherwise. I have 50 cousins alone and don't intend to have them all there and will have no problem letting anyone know that. I can't afford it and don't want it, therefore will not allow it. I just don't think adding Adult Reception will make a difference.

We don't want to write 'adult reception' because it should be implied. We are having a very formal wedding at a venue in NYC and kids are NOT welcome.
My MOH is already spreading the word to those who might be problems, and she is calling anyone who RSVPs with their kids.
