Do you have to specifically write this on the invitation???? I mean, I sent the invites out to 'Mr and Mr.s blah' and now I am hearing that they may bring their 2 children. They are under 2 years old, but still....
I also just remembered I have a couple who has a 8 year old I think, I hope they realize that I addressed the invitation to them onlyand not the child.
I mean, do people really not get it? Do I have to spell it out on the invitations?

Re: No children!!!
Sometimes people write 'adult reception' on the invites.
I am still amazed at how many people think it is OK to bring people that are not specifically addressed on the invite. They show up with kids, or their dates, etc.
If you know in advance that they are planning on bringing their children, then you should let your mom or FMIL (depending on whose side of the family it is) call and tell them it is for adults only/

Re: No children!!!
You said you heard they were bringing their kids... who did you hear this from? If it's a close friend or relative, maybe have them tell the guest that the bride and groom intended for their reception to be adults only.

Re: No children!!!
well the girl who told me about someone's kids coming, I just emailed her and told her 'well, its an adult reception, I didn't invitechildren b/c I don'tw ant children there. I am not trying to offend anyone, but I just want the adults there. The only child will be the flower girl and she is 3. I just thought taht when people saw that I wrote 'mr and Mr.s ___' They would think it was just for them and not 'mr and mrs. ___ And family'
that is what I told her, so hopefully she will mention something to everyone lol She has a big mouth. :) If not, then I just hope people don't show up with a child that I didn't pay for or have the room for.

Re: No children!!!
I have been so UP TO HERE about this whole children thing, I can't take it. Normally I would post under my LIW Alias (I'm a massive loser) because I KNOW certain members of my family troll this site to find out what I'm up to (they are more massive losers than I am), but they can go screw, because I am so pissed I can't breathe. Of course I can still eat, and this is making me eat even more, because I'm so mad. So I'm doubly pissed.
I just don't get why people can't get it through their heads that just because they had kids, those kids are welcome everywhere. I don't see why I should have kids at my wedding. They are not well-behaved, and I just don't want them there. I have to deal with your kids at every family get together, and I can barely tolerate them then. Now I'm forced to have them at my wedding?
So I've gone around and around with my mom on this, who thinks it would cause world war III if I excluded them. So no one else should be mad, but it's okay if I'M mad??? THAT'S WHAT I DON'T GET.
So I've been particularly crazy about my brother's kid, because she's TWO, and her insane mother (nightmare sister in law) is digging in her heels about how her baby should be there. But if I let THIS kid come, then all of the other parents in the family will be incensed that THEIR kids weren't invited, so they ALL have to come. I pretty much put my foot down the other day, and told my mom that I wasn't having it.
CUT TO THIS WEEKEND. It's my birthday, and I'm out with mom, dad, bro, SIL, FH, and their kid, who I love, but is singing at the top of her lungs in a restaurant and her parents have no clue that this could be bothersome to other people. They were oblivious to the other people looking at us, totally annoyed. When it's your kid, you just become blind and deaf.
So my MOM, in all of her glory, says 'Well, Jessica, you're going to be going to your first wedding!! Won't that be wonderful?'
I started choking. FH started kicking me under the table- I still have shinsplints from his Beckam kicks. I turn absolutely red with fury, and then SIL starts in 'Oh, I'm so happy! I'm so glad you decided to have Jessica there!'
I throw my mom the dirtiest look you can imagine. Then she turns to my dad, and says in a loud voice which she is 'convinced' is a whisper 'Well, why is she giving me a dirty look? What did I do? Isn't this decision made??' just making it worse.
I just want to start a choke-a-rama and start wringing the necks of everyone at the table. I just couldn't deal.
I think with some families, you just can't get it your way. I know you might say to just have some balls and tell them to go f themselves, but in truth, I DON'T want to start a family fight. I just don't understand why no one seems to be concerned with how I feel. They want kids, so there will be kids.
And please don't say write 'Adult Reception' on my invites. Knowing my family, they'll show up in bondage gear and ball-gags.
I am so f'ing pissed after writing this, I'm going to McDonalds and ordering the entire dollar menu, because I'm too poor to order off the regular menu, because I have to save up to pay for these kids to eat two bites of dinner at my wedding.

Re: No children!!!
You need to actually say it on the invites no children just adults otherwise you will have problems. I had this problem with my shower we never wrote no children on the invites it was just word of mouth and we still had problems. It is so much easier if you have it spelled out on the invites. We are allowing the children to come to our wedding so this is not in issue for us thank God. we are giving our families a choice to bring there children or not bring there children. We decided this cause we don't want to go threw the drama again that I went threw with my shower.

Re: No children!!!
I added 'adult reception to follow'. And I used word of mouth. We had some kids (immediate family). We had a babysitter there to watch them.

Re: No children!!!
You should NOT have had to spell it out, but unfortunately people can be pretty self-absorbed. I'd have whoever is close to these people (you, FH, your mom, FMIL, etc) call the family and just gently offer that you can recommend a baby-sitter if they don't already have one for their children. And if they sound surprised, it just has to be relayed that there are only adults invited to the wedding.
I know I don't want children at my wedding, so I'm sure I'll be in the same boat as you in a few months!
Good luck!

Re: No children!!!
ugh people just don't know sometimes. It should be obvious if i don't write 'and family' on the invitation, your kids are not invited! I guess your best bet is to make sure your invitation reads 'Adult Reception' and hopefully they will get the hint that way!

Re: No children!!!
I feel the same way and what's even worse is that i was basically forced to write 'adult only' on my reception card only because i already know for a fact that there are people on both sides who have NO common sense and will bring their whole sports team of kids. I even went so far as to personalize the rsvp cards to say: Jane Smith and Harry Smith.....I didn't want there to be any misunderstandings. Also, i must add that i am not a disrespectful person BUT i did have to let my mother know as plain as day that she is NOT to invite any kids OR any extra people for that matter. I let her know that FH and I are paying for this wedding and she is not to do anything extra except show up and be happy. Suffice it to say she's a little pissed at me right now and it's actually been a couple of days since i have spoken to her but you know what...her silence towards me isn't costing me a dime

Good for you, at least you can say that lol We aren't paying for the RH but we are paying for almost everything else. I am glad you at least stood up for yourself :)
