no children at the wedding....

i have a little question--If anyone is having a 'no kid' policy-- how did you all put the wording in the invitation for NO CHILDREN? I have seen it before but i dont remember what exactly the wording was--

Re: no children at the wedding....

i've heard you just address it to the people that are invited..like don't use 'the smith family' b/c then they'll assume the kids are invited. but if you do mr and mrs blah smith...they know it's just them.

i'm only having my nephew in the bridal party and that's it (he's not even born yet ) he should be a year and a half by the time i get married..haha.

haa thats so cutee--- gl-- i liked the above post regarding the 'adult' reception-- I just dont want it to be offensive-- and also -- just writing Mr.&Mrs. Smith--- that doesnt say they cant bring kids and if the responses come back 4-- then what? I wil feel bad having to explain it -- so i think i need to be over obvious--

any other opinions??

People should understand that if it's addressed to Mr. & Mrs. ______ it doesn't mean they can bring their kids, pets, neighbors, friends.....

I think 'Adult reception to follow' can sound a little funny (makes me think it's going to be R rated or X rated like an adult film... ) but sometimes people need it to be really really explicit that they can't bring their kids

If you don't want to add 'adult reception to follow' then I'd suggest including a '__ attending' line on your RSVP for them to fill in. That isn't technically proper ettiquette but it will at least give you a heads up in case people plan to bring extras. I've also seen people write '__ seats have been reserved in your honor' (which i think is a little tacky) but sometimes people really need it and it can save a lot of drama

As an alternative, you can also have family members spread the word that it will be an adult-only reception.

The only 'kids' coming are my first cousins (15+) and there arent really many young kids who could even be invited (no close relatives have young kids, and my friends dont have kids) so I'm hoping for the best... especially since my mom was against putting '# attending' -- she thinks our guests know better...... i hope she's right!

yess- that is tacky-- I dont like putting numbers-- so we'll see- ill talk to the fh and see what he thinks--there are just so many 1-5 year olds- its not cool have a million kids running around the dance floor etcetc--

if you want to follow ettiquette, just address it to 'Mr. & Mrs. ______' and don't put 'and family' -- it's assumed their kids are NOT invited. you can have family members spread the word that kids are not invited. if the kids are that young, most people know better

You can say 'adult reception' It is not tacky. As a matter of fact, when I ordered my invitations, 'adult Reception' was actually a template the company had.

Saying ' No children please' is tacky. That's all.

Re: no children at the wedding....

i'd say in addition to invitations word of mouth is always good. just have your family and friends pass the word along (kind like how people find out where you're registered). can't hurt to have a little backup.

addressing it to 'mr. and mrs. ________' means that only they're invited (as opposed to 'the __________ family') and people SHOULD know that, but that's not always the case (or they choose to ignore it).

you could also do:

____ of 2 people will be attending

on the rsvp card, but you said you don't like the idea of putting numbers on there. might be something to consider if you're really worried about it though.

Re: no children at the wedding....

I have a dilemma regarding children too. In my family there are only 2 children who will be under 15 at the time of the wedding. My 2 cousins who will be 14 and 11. I am very close to them and really want them at the wedding. On FH's side of the family there are ALOT of children under 15, whom he only sees on major holidays. Would it be offensive if i invite my 2 cousins and no other kids? I mentioned to FH that i really want them there and he didnt say anything about it not being fair to his family but I dont want to cause drama. Any suggestions?

I was going to ask them to be in my bridal party but they were already in another cousins wedding for this May and i didnt want to cause my aunt the additional expense, however my cousins wedding was called off.. Would it be tacky to ask them all this time later? I know that would solve the drama problem with his family.

I don't think it's tacky to ask them to be in your wedding party and agree it would solve the problem. Any chance they'd be able to use the attire they bought for the other wedding?

No unfortunately her colors were black and green, mine are burnt orange and brown. Theres a girl and a boy so my aunt didnt have to lay out the money for the tux yet, and she only paid half for the dress. I know the kids were really looking forward to being in my cousins wedding, so they will be ecstatic if i ask them to be in mine.

I think that if he only sees them on the holidays it shouldnt be a big deal-- I would put it on the invites and tell your aunt that the whole family is invited-- if his family says anything say i have nooo idea why they came? lol

Re: no children at the wedding....

i know i already responded but take my advice, PUT 'adult reception' if u dont wanna deal with people tagging on their kids. We just adressed them to 'mr. & mrs.' and u have no idea how many rsvp's we got with added children, families & guests! luckily my mom has a way about her & was able to call & explain without making any drama, but if u want to avoid question or phonecalls - add it on!

why don't people with kids just understand?? i think a lot of people have a 'no kids' wedding so it's not like your going against the grain...they should just deal with it!!

Re: no children at the wedding....

NO I don't suggest putting no children in the invites! Just address to Mr and Mrs on the invite also address all of your freinds and family ahead of time personally before the invites go out and explain there will be no children at the wedding.

this is the best way to handle it so there is no confusion about your descion to not have children.
