I don't want small children there (like less than 7) How should I write it without offending people? Is it even Ok to write it on there? Or is that tacky? I really don't want a bunch of little kids at my wedding. Not that I don't like them, but my wedding is ending at 1:30 and I think its going to be too stressful for the parents.
TIA
edited to include:
Hey, do you think that on the RSVP card I can fill in the total number of people... like: ___ of 3 will attend (I fill in the 3)
Or is that like taboo in wedding invites?

Re: No Children on Invite
I think the 'proper' etiquette would be to just address the invite to the ppl who are invited. I personally could NOT use proper etiquette unfortunately. I did pocketfold invites so on the reception insert i put 'adult only' when describing the reception. I know I know NOT the correct way of doing things but some ppl in our circle do not posess etiquette and common sense so we had to spell it out so there would be no misunderstanding. And even with that i have still been asked if they could bring kids
Good Luck because this is always a touchy subject but just remember it's your wedding.

You can always write 'Adult Only Reception' on the invite...hopefully people will get the hint then.

Re: No Children on Invite
Well, I am kind of in the same boat, too. There are only 5 kids that would be at the wedding, but if I don't invite them, then the parents are going to leave early anyway to relieve the babysitter...especially since my wedding is on a Sunday night. Anyway, getting back to YOUR dilemma, lol. It is your wedding, so people have to respect your wishes...but if you are inviting any children, it might offend others when they see those kids there. I think the only kids that might get off easily are the ones that are in the wedding party. I know for one wedding I went to, the bride and groom hired a babysitter on site to watch the kids in another room if they started getting fussy/tired. This way the parents didnt have to worry about them. It was great!!!

Don't know what I am going to do about this, every one in my family has kids, I love them, but I would also like to have a wedding that is not a kids party.

Re: No Children on Invite
Just address the envelope to whoever you are inviting. That's what we did. I only had one person ask me about their kids and to be honest I think it's because he really didn't know better.

I was beginning to think I was the only one who felt that way. I mentioned it to some of my friends and family and they were acting like I was committing a crime. I just wanted the adults to be able to enjoy themselves at my wedding without having to worry about their little ones.

Hmm...that's a good idea. I'll have to double check there if there will be an extra vacant room. Hopefully I won't have to pay extra for that room. Put if I say a baby sitter is going to be provided then people are REALLY going to bring their kids lol.

I know right! I just wanted the adults to enjoy the wedding and have to run around trying to find out where their kid is and what they're up to.

Re: No Children on Invite
You should just put the names of the adults on the invite; I only had one person ask if they could bring their kids (3) and i said no. so his wife stayed home to watch them and he came (he's my friend). so be it. the youngest person at my wedding was 13. It ended at 1am, and I was not about to have little ones running around an adult party; some people love having kids at their wedding which is great, i'm just not one of them!
as everyone else said, its your day, and you and fh are the only ones that need to be accomodated!

I agree it's the only polite way of saying it. Also you can tell your family and friends to discreetly let people know it's an adult only reception.

Re: No Children on Invite
One would think that people would like some time off from their kids. Don't get me wrong I love kids, I just don't want more kids than adults there. With my family they all have 3-5 kids.

Wow!...My friends have like 2 kids each plus we have lots of out of towners with kids. I'm having a night wedding I know how cranky kids can get at night, all I want is for my guests to enjoy themselves to the fullest.

I think filling in the number is taboo on wedding invites. I would go with just addressing the invitation to the people invited and maybe putting 'adult only reception' on the invitation.
I am not having any children at my wedding either and so far only one of my cousins has made a comment. If he doesn't like the fact that his 11 year old stepdaughter isn't invited, he doesn't need to come.

Re: No Children on Invite
I had this problem also. On the RSVP card I wrote 'An Ocassion for Adults Only'. I know it's not proper etiquette, but people should know better than to bring their kids to a late reception. That's what's not proper etiquette !
It *****, but I rather do that than be aggravated on my wedding day.

Re: No Children on Invite
I have a constant argument with fh on this. I dont want anyone under 18 at the wedding at all. He has family in Vegas with children and says its not fair to say no children when they are coming from that far. I dont see why they cant come in and leave the kids with someone from the other side of the family that wont be at the wedding. I also dont want a flower girl or ring bearer because then they would be at the wedding. Im really anti children for weddings lol. Im gonna make sure I get my way on this though because crying cranky children on our wedding day will really aggravate me lol.

Re: No Children on Invite
I was planning on putting ' Adult Reception' on the RSVP... I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Why pay for children when they don't even enjoy like the adults.. Right??
