No China?

No China?

How many of you have decided NOT to register for china?

To be honest we'll be moving into an apt. & won't have a house for 2-3 years & then although of course we'll have company, I don't see us 'taking out the special china.'

I think I'd prefer to just get very nice every day wear.

FH is on the wall on this as his mom is saying 'of course you have to register for china.'

I really don't plan on using them right away either...but many have suggested we register for china because we will never buy them for ourselves down the line. Which in my case is prob true so we are going to register for it.

Yea we're living in an apt and probably won't be buying a house for years so we don't see the need for china...i do want to get a really nice set of everyday plates...a whole matching set of 12.

I am not registering for it but that is only bc I inherited my grandmother's entire set..It is a sentimental thing for me, so there is no way to I could buy another set

I don't want any - my mother started gathering hers at her 15th anniversary, and it's still unecessary.

IMO I think that ONE day you may want to have holidays or special birthdays at your home and you may want the good china... I live in a small condo right now, prob wont use it either until we have a house, but I too would most likely NOT buy it for myself... so I am regsitering for it (actually I am not registered but I AM POSITIVE my mom/other fam bought it already ...I am excited)

I inherited some from an aunt. I am my mother's only girl and so I get hers too (she's used her china ONCE in 30 years!!!!!!!!!!!).

Also, FH is only child and his mother probably has 3 complete sets of china.

So alas, I did not register. Not necessary for me. Plus, I don't really like to cook, clean, or anything. So in reality, I'd be totally into using paper plates for the rest of my life... or actually, we can just eat out the chinese containers!

my concern is that I won't get a complete set- I don't expect anyone in my family to shell out a few thousand for it, and other than that, I think I will get a few pieces and then end up having to fill in what missing. For all of that trouble, if I want it, I'll buy it myself.

I know I probably won't use it too much, but I registered for it anyway. I can't see us going out and buying it ourselves once we have room or a use for it.

I love to entertain and have friends over, even though we are very casual I am huge on presentation I like my food to look just right, candles, and the table decorated even though its just coupl eof close friends and we play cards and renta movie. So china was must for me!! Opal Innocence fron enox and we've already had our e-party and received almost half the set!! FH didnt see th epoint of nice china, his family usually just uses paper plates, but my mom has her wedding china so it was a must for me even though we will be living in an apartment for awhile!

Of course you don't have to. I love formal entertaining so I really wanted the china.

and it is someting you probbay won;t buy for yourself, ut if you decide you want it in a few years, I'm sure your family will help you collect it over the years as xmas and birthdya gifts.

Pick out ONE set of china that can be dressed up or down for everyday and formal dining. The napkins, glasses, table settings really make a BIG difference. Wherever you register Im sure they can help you pick something out that's really nice and versatile.

You can even buy a set of nice chargers for the set to use as formalwear. it makes it really elegant, and costs a lot less and tkes up a lot less space thna second set of china

I don't think you HAVE to, but I am going to. FH and I already have everyday plates, so I want something a little more formal for special occasions.

We weren't going to, but got the speech 'If you don't get it now, you never will, and you will want it later' so we put it on the registry. If we get it, we get it. If we don't then no big deal.

I had the same concern when we were registering. So many of my friends ended up with 3 or 4 place settings and had to complete on their own. When we found a beautiful china pattern on sale, we pounced.

I don't know if Fortunoff still has it discounted, but we registered for Mikasa Platinum Crown. My FMIL ordered it the day after we registered to ensure we'd have the complete set. We ended up with 12 5-piece place settings, creamer, sugar bowl & cover, large vegetable bowl, and round serving platter for.....

$250!!!!!!

We've registered for the completer pieces, but the actual settings are sitting in FMIL's house.

Here's my take on this China thing. Take it from an old married woman...
We registered for it and got about half the set. We have never used it and we have a house. I do use my everyday dishes (their rather nice) and my crystal. I do not even use the stainless steel flatware we registered for.

If I had to do it over again I would register for a really great set of everyday dishes, great crystal and nice everyday flatware.

That's just my opinion, but I hope it helps.

I just figure what other time are we going to get China...I know if we don't register for it that we won't buy it for ourselves

Re: No China?

I totally found some China I love - but there are SO SO SO many other things we really need for our new house for everyday use.

I think we are gonna leave off the fine China from the registry so hopefully we get some more of the stuff we will actually use (like everyday china, pots and pans and the like)! Maybe once we have the basics purchased for our new home, then we will consider splurging on fine china!

We are already living together and have a bunch of the everyday stuff so we did register for the china. I know its not practical but I figure if we don't get it now we probably never will.
