no Church!

no Church!

I can't find a church!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been rejected by 5. I can't join one because we live in Westcheter.

I am considering trying to do it up there, but I really like the Milleridge, and most of our families are on li.

We've tried 3 Catholic & 2 Episcopal
chruches. They won't take outsiders.
FH is trying 2 more. I can't handle anymore rejection.

I need to book the hall before it is unavailable!!

So much for 'we're all God's children'.....Try a Methodist church. I'm SO sorry for you!

Did you try St. Paul's? It's right down the road from the Milleridge.

Can you get married at the hall?

Re: no Church!

Did you try the one on Post Ave in Westbury?? St. Brigid's, I think. I know two friends of mine got married there about 5 years ago and they were both outsiders. I don't know what their policy is now, but it wouldn't hurt to try and it is a beautiful church.

Re: no Church!

We would like to get married in a church. Our parents have also both asked a few tieme to make sure we were. The carriage hosue doesn't really have space for a ceremony anyway, although I did see one picture where they had it outside, where the coctail hour would be.We are both Catholic, so we tried there, but are nto thrilled with them, and I think Episcopal is as Protestant as we could go, considering FMIL is a Catholic school teacher & Episcopal is a pretty big stretch for her, but she didn't give us too much trouble.

I have hear Methodists & Presbyterians are pretty accomodating, so FH says we may just have to try them and every one else will just have to deal.
(Love him!)
I'm too much of a people pleaser though.

Re: no Church!

I suggested the Methodist church because my MOH is Lutheran and her husband is Catholic so they got married in a Methodist church, no questions asked.

I'm a total people pleaser too, but you can't be when it comes to YOUR wedding, you'll drive yourself insane! The Methodist or Presbyterian church is better than NO church right?

Re: no Church!

that's not fair.....usually they make you pay an extra fee, but I've never heard of outright rejections like that.
What kind/sect of church are you looking for?

Re: no Church!

St. Paul's in Brookville?
That was on my list- some else here was getting married there & reccommened it. (sorry, I forget who or where I read it)

I didn't call earlier, b/c i changed my mind about Catholic, so i tried some Episcopalians, but they didn't help. Some of them just weren't there.I just emailed Fh 7 Catholic churches to try.

Including, St. Pauls', St. Brigid's & St. Bernards, b/c they were recomend her e& in a similar thread I posted in BHB.

yes, methodist is better than no church -if all 7 of these say no, then I think that may be our next option. ( That'd be 14 with the oens we alrady tried--a solid effort, I think)

My uncle is Epsicopalian but Baptised one of his children Methodist becuse they were easier to deal with. I think the Episcopal church was so booked he'd be driving by the time he could be Christened!

what about the Historical Chapel in Woodbury...

Re: no Church!

I was just going to suggest the Historical Chapel as well.
DEFINITELY give them a call and talk to them!
I was talking to the owner and that is the EXACT reason why they have it-- for people who can't find a church, but want to get married in one!!
ETA they are a vendor on this board too.

Re: no Church!

Thanks, I drove by that with my parents & they thought it was a real church, so I don't think they'd mind. I'd like leave that as a last resort though.
I haven't heard back from FH about his luck with the 7 churches I gave him. But he actually works at work. . .

My church is in W/Babylon and I am not a member there but we can be married there! It may be a little bit far but the priest marrying us is so nice and I know they marry people outside of the parish! Let me know if you want the info!

Re: no Church!

Thanks Kelly,
I looked at your profile- Our lady of Grace?
I'll add that to the list. Its a little far, but we can't really be picky at this point.

is there anything special you had to say or do to get them to take outsiders? What parish to you belong to?

We are waiting to hear back from a few places, and then have a few more, and the if none of that works out, I'm going to widen my search a little.

So far our best bet in St. Paul's in Brookville, the receptionist said probably, and we have to call back when the priest is there.

I am doing much better now that this is my fiance's project. I'll do the research, but my self esteem can't take all the rejection.

My favorite no's so far are the one that said they are getigna new preist, so they can't predict what the rules will be then, and St. Brigid's who 'loves to celebrate mariage' but doesn't have the time for outsiders b/c that have too many masses already (the message is in 4 languages)

St. Paul's is a really pretty church. Beautiful stained glass windows and lots of them and nice green grounds. I work at SUNY Old Westbury which is right across the street. I love when I leave on a Friday evening and there's a wedding there.

Try St. Martin De Porres (I think it used to be called St. Martha's) in Uniondale off Jeruselam Ave. It's a nice church, also Catholic. We had both my grandparents funerals there and they were Catholic but not members.

Also try All Saints Episcopal Church in Baldwin. I orginally was going to use the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, but it is going to cost too much. So I called All Saints and Rev Ackerson was very nice. I am Episcopal but FH is Methodist. They were OK with it as long as we were both Christians.

Re: no Church!

Try Our Lady of Lourdes in Massapequa Park i'm not sure where milleridge is but it can't hurt. FH and I don't belong to that church. One person has to be catholic.

How about Unitarian?

Re: no Church!

Try Holy Name of Jesus in Woodbury. my friend got maried there a few years ago. Neither of them where members of that church, they had no problems at all.

Re: no Church!

Tourist- I didnt say anything special. The woman was like dont worry you dont have to belong to the church to get married here when I raised the issue! I belong to the church a town over actually. The only thing is that you have to get a letter of freedom to get married in a church outside your parish (this is wherever you live) My SIL had to do this even though she was getting married at the church she belonged to but at the time she lived in brooklyn so she had to get a letter from the church in her area of brooklyn.
And you have to get your baptism certificate from the church you were baptised in.

Other than that there was nothing special we had to do. Our priest is great, so nice and everyone has been helpful even when I was calling regularly with questions and changed my wedding date!

Its worth keeping in mind if the ones closer dont work out!

Re: no Church!

Wow- thanks, you ladies are all great.

Milleridge is in Jericho, but Massapequa is near Bethpage, where my family is and Fh's cousin's/groomsmen live in Massapequa, so he'll probably be leaving from there, so that's not bad at all. Its closer than West Babylon.

FMIL admitted that Presbyterian is better that city court, so that's our next option.
